Ok, I've read through tons of posts about doing a complete re-wiring, with a lot of good comments and I think that I have learned 1 thing about selecting the right wiring kit (Ron Francis, Painless, M&H, ect)........"It depends"

So based on that I'm wondering if you can make some suggestions on which route to go based on the following...

1. I'm electrically inclined, but never re wired a full car.
2. Have the money for the M&H route, but wouldn't mind saving a few hundred
3. All of the wiring needs replacement (the under dash is toast, wires burnt, clipped, spliced, ect...) Nothing works right now except the engine starts. No gauges, lights, wipers, ect..
4. Seriously considering ditching all stock gauges and just creating a custom gauge cluster (including speedo, fuel, temp, oil, volts and tach) and mounting in place of the originals. Dash is in bad shape, so I wouldn't feel so bad about modifying it.
5. Car has MSD 6a, electric fan
6. Will add modernish stereo most likely
7. Other non stock items in the plans...electric choke, electric fuel pump.
8. Hate working under the dash! Ron Francis EZ kit looks appealing? (I have a bad back)

I am budgeting approx $1k for wiring and gauges. If I go the stock M&H route, I would probably wire up the stock dash cluster and hold of on gauges for a little while.

Lay your wisdom on me, please.

Mainly depends on what you do with the instrument cluster - decide what you want to do then pick the wiring... dont run the stock stuff for now then change over later... no point on that.

The electric fans, choke, and fuel pump are all easily added to the stock harnesses.

If you plan on going with a custom gauge cluster I would recommend an aftermarket wiring harness. EZ wiring is the best bang for the buck - Ran Francis kits are not my favorite from past experience but they work well - just dont like their design. Painless is the old standby. Any of these will work excellent for your application - My initial instinct is to go with whatever you feel comfortable with.

I posted a thread over on ProtouringMopar that covers some electrical stuff - give it a read if you want.

Did entire 68 Coronet - BUY M and H !!!! Perfect fit, makes sense, no regrets.
Period. Do 1 harness at a time if that helps. They do it Right. Have a question, callem.

what ever u do--take your time d.c voltage is not to be taken litely--i went with custome gauges-glad i did-took time and with help os car schematic--have fun let us know--instead of custome stereo--hidden unit that control i-pod/mp3-two good speakers and see what happens--enjoy that mopar

I'm actually a big fan of the American Autowire kits. I've used the others and even done my own from scratch. For the money, the AAW kits have a better fuse panel, better wire, a better thought out component/layout and killer diagrams. They have recently just started adding Mopar specific kits, also.
Don't get me wrong, the other kits have merit. EZ is inexpensive and have come a real long way from years ago. Ron Francis is one hell of a good guy, but I'm not a fan of his fuse panel. He does have some killer accessories. OK, I can't think of anything good to say about Painless, but that's probably just me.

If you're going stock, M&H is the way to go. There is an outfit in Canada I believe that is doing stock harnesses also, but I have no experience with them. Nor do I have any experience with the new offerings from Classic Industries, but the prices look reasonable.

Thanks for the input guys, I ended up going with the Ron Francis Access 24/7 kit. It seemed like a good option as far as quality and flexibility. A little pricey, but it was well within my range and left me enough to buy an entire Gauge set for the custom cluster I intend to use in place of the stock gauges.

I'll let you all know how it goes.

Ron Francis Kit arrived today, just in time for the weekend.

When I bought my Polara I discovered it had been completely rewired from tail lights to head lights and everything inbetween with a Keep It Clean wiring harness. Every single wire is labeled with the gauge AND what the wire goes to... "AWG 14 gauge, LR Turn Signal" etc. It also has a modern spade style fuse panel and relay panel clearly marked and numbered. I had never heard of them before but the kit they used is extremely high quality and with everything labeled the way it is, it seems very user friendly. Also have a dual field alternator, MSD Pro Billet Distributor, and Summit Racing Multiple Spark Capacitive Discharge box (basically an MSD 6AL) and everything works beautifully. I know you already ordered your harness, but for anyone else considering tackling wiring...give Keep It Clean a look!
