I have yet to resolve my issue. Heres what I did..... I installed a turbo action shifter with Lite RPM Switch. Not a big adventure but for some reason it wont crank over. ZERO I thought it might be the safety switch ( before it had to be in park to start.)
Well there is no neutral switch its been plugged off. I know this trans has been worked on for racing with a reverse valve body and a trans brake, but for the life of me I can figure out what the problem is. There is only one (1) wire to the trans nothing else. I disconnected the linkage and tried to crank it over changing gears each time still nothing. I really didn't do anything else to it but still nothing. Any advice from anyone that may know what my issue could be would be appreicated. it is a 727

There should be still a Neutral Safety Switch. Ours is a old B&M ratchet shifter and it has a safety switch wired to it. I think NHRA mandates it.

the wire to the nss needs to be grounded to something. I had mine screwed to the frame to move the car around

Your starter relay needs a ground in order to fire the starter. Without a NSS, either that car will fire in all gears or not at all. Seems like it's the later, so you need to find the ground terminal on the starter relay, ground it, and see if she fires. But before you do that, make sure its in park lol.

Btw, the shifter doesn't matter in a 69. The nss is in the tranny, not the shifter, so did you change something or knock the lead loose when you swapped the shifter?

So long as the tranny is a 69, that is

My trans has only one wire to it and it goes to the trans break the normal place for the NSS switch is plugged off. Whats weird it only started in park before. now nothing

I am wondering if its my starter button.

If the NSS is plugged off, the plug that used to be going to it has to be bypassed, which I did once with a simple piece of wire going to the two prong holes. Maybe in your moving things around something shook loose?

Was there a micro switch wired into the old shifter? If the trans neutral safety has been removed that's the next way to wire one in...

I will look at the old shifter but I don't know of any wires coming off it. I did find two wires under the carpet both yellow but not sure if they were connected I took up the carpet and theres a lot of wires but these two are not connected to anything. The only thing is one had a terminal and the other was just taped off. I will put a meer on them and see maybe hook them together and see what happens. At this point the NSS is not where it should and like I said the trans has only once wire to it and its behind the shife on the back of the main housing and it goes to the trans brake.

Ah ok, now I get it. Like they said above, your other shifter must hav had a micro switch on it that worked as the NSS. Take that wire with the terminal on it under the carpet and ground it. I bet the car starts. Also, look at the starter relay and figure out which wire is the ground / NSS wire and trace it.

simple, the ground terminal on the starter relay needs to see a body ground. careful, it will start in every gear. you can do this until you figure out something else if you choose

Ok I just figured it out thanks to HT413. On my hurst shifter there is a micro switch that acts as a NSS switch NSS since there is not one in the transmission. I found the wires under the carpet that I assume disconnected when I removed the shifter. So I am in the process of hooking up the new NSS. I will keep you posted but I just wanted to thank all that replied to my dire straight for advice. Always learning.

Well much to my disappointment the NSS switch didnt work. So doing the only thing left to do was to go to my transmission mechanic and ask him what I was or did wrong. The answer was nothing its just the wrong NSS switch. He told me and showed me the older switches had a single pin and it has to be the right switch. He explained that the only way to see if its working correctly is to drop the pan and see if it makes the probper contact. So I am taking it down to him on Monday and he will look and see what the issue is. The nice thing about this guy is he has been doing transmissions all his life and he rebuit my Dodge ram and its better than factory. So I will keep you posted as the results.

Wait, you said the tranny NSS was plugged off, so dropping the pan is a waste of time. That tranny guy thinks you still have the factory NSS, albeit he thinks it's the wrong one. Did you do as WP said up above and just ground the proper terminal on the starter relay? Let me find a picture of the relay and post it to show you which one to ground...

Here, check it out. The terminal to the top right of the relay in this picture is the ground. Ground that to anywhere on the chassis and that baby should start. The small one on an angle should have a yellow wire to it from ignition. But PLEASE make sure it's in park first!

I can start the car if I connect the two wires that went to the switch on my old linkage. It will start in every gear which is not what NHRA allows. I did install a NSS switch where the I removed the plug but nothing happened. So he told me that there is something in the trans that needs to be looked at to be sure that the switch makes contact with something inside I honestly can't remember what that part actually is. He said he just can't say until he looks at it he has a bunch of NSS switches and said he just cant give me one and say it will work. I think its probably worth the money for hime to look at it. He is a straight up guy has many race cars with his transmission shop name on them. He rebuilt my dodge ram tranny and its better than stock ( improved parts over stock) He also said the part inside the transmission may not even be installed since the trans has been modified. I think a look with his knowledge will help resolve this.

That's cool, man, sounds like he'll have it figured out. I was pokin around the turbo action website and it looks like all you need is one of these babies...

If it's like my B&M pro ratchet, this switch mounts inside the shifter and detects shifter position to give you the same effect as an NSS.

Wow thats really cool. I wish I would have seen this. What I received from Turbo Action was the typical NSS switch that goed into the trans this one looks fool proof or maybe canyon707 fool proof. I am going to order this as we speak. Thanks for the link. Big thanks..... I was also curious about transmission fluids I had been using Amsoil but considering the amsoil super shift. Had any experience or recommendations on this???
I was looking at the turbo action website and see that the there switch is for ford and gm only.

Well the plot thickens..... Installed a new relay and switch worked once then nothing blew NSS trid a new switch started once and then blew again. I am lost for words that I can type here. My transmission is thinking something is not grounded.????
