Yeah, that vinyl roof rot happens...I've seen a LOT worse, though.

...and where the vinyl's not, it looks great.
 
I've got to get that body moulding off without destroying it Also get the glue off from the vinyl roof. not sure what to use to get it off yet
 
Try Lacquer thinner and see if that cuts it.. pretty stout stuff.
 
I'd recommend a wire wheel. Not only will it take the glue off, but will also clean back down to bare metal and get rid of the rust i'm sure you have elsewhere on your roof. Great to see you bringing the old girl back.
