Just had an earthquake here in South Carolina. News is reporting a 4.4 magnitude. Not sure of any damage at this point. It sure did shake the house!

Reported to be centered in Edgefield, SC. About 80 miles from my house.

Dang it! I a geologist and I've never felt an earthquake. I'm from Kansas and never seen a tornado up very close.:angryfire:

I've seen 3 tornadoes relatively close and felt 1 earthquake...all in KS. Among other reasons, I hate this place.

That's Weird......Earthquake in SC. Hopefully No Damage, no one hurt. Had a whopping 1.5 earthquake close by in Clintonville, WI not too long back 2012

We had one here in the mid Atlantic a few years ago. I was at work, had a car on the lift and was at my box writing on the repair order. My toolbox started shaking and I thought someone was messing with me. I looked up and there was no one near me and the car on the lift was dancing around. It was a strange sensation to say the least.

I've felt a few earthquakes here in Southern ILL. One when I was a kid and my Mom slapped me and told me to quit shaking the table in 68 and another in ~ 09 .. my wife woke me up and told me to quit shaking the bed

I can't win

I was goofing on the computer last evening and the wife said...it fees like the couch is shaking...later I hear about the tremor..so it seems we felt it here in the middle of Georgia..I can only remember one quake that I could actually say I felt..was studying on the third floor of a library in Illinios in spring of 87 I think it was..

Next time they predict a snowstorm here, I'm flying you in!

No reports of any structural damage in SC. I checked our house at first daylight this morning and no cracks in the brick exterior. I did find a new crack in the concrete floor of my shop and one section of the concrete was slightly raised up beyond the adjacent section. That was our first time feeling a quake of 4.1 magnitude.

The strange thing was I actually heard a rumble just before we felt the house move. I first thought it was a low flying jet or a gust of wind but now I realize it was the ground moving. A lot of people felt the quake and the news last night and this morning was a buzz about the quake. Such a strange weather week for SC, freak snow storm followed by an earthquake. What next???

That's funny out here, most people that have lived out here in earthquake country, don't even talk about them until they're over 5.0, actually do some damage...LOL... the rockin' & rollin' ones are not too bad, it's the ones that shake violently & that are 6.0 & above will get your attention... I grew up with earthquakes, now Tornados are scary, Hurricanes are a royal hassle, but earthquakes not so much {unless they are over 5.5 or so} knock out freeways & bridges etc.... But we build for them too, we have built in safeguards etc., it's kind just what happens out here, it's funny what you get use to... Not anywhere near as bad in the Sierra's where I'm at now, but down in LA & the valley & around the Bay area they were pretty significant, allot of faults there... We're due for another big one, IMHFO the Hayward fault in the east bay area, hasn't snapped in a really long time, it's going to, "soon I fear & when it does, it will be a real duzy"...
