1968 Hemi GTX Value

If matching numbers I say its worth easy 50 to 60k, but I think someone will drop well over 100k to have it, only hope is that they don't know about it.

I agree. In my mind, it's a 50K car needing a 50K resto so it can be worth 75K LOL. If it's clean enough to stay a survivor with minimal work, I can see paying 60-65 for it.

You'd have to be out of your mind to pay that kind of premium for this car...for "well over 100k" you could have your choice of dozens of mint, restored hemi cars.

One of the guys took video today and sent me the links. I guess the owner is selling everything to pay for cancer treatment. The car has been garaged since 1984. He would pull it out every couple of weeks and drive it around the block. He thought the drivers in Arizona were crazy and did not want to take it out on the main streets. The sound is crappy but here are the video links. I was there and this car sounds amazing.

image.jpg. This one was sold new in western Canada in 1968. I freshened it in 2007.

Looks a hell of a lot better cleaned up in the 1st video, but has it been repainted......no side stripes? If it's been repainted, there goes the survivor status & prestige.

Looks nice none the less.

........Looks like a repaint to me.......sucks.....thought it was a survivor......50K

The car is original paint. It has some chips and good size scratch on the passenger rear quarter where a washing machine brushed it while being moved. I do not know about stripes. The owner says the appearance has not been changed since purchased in Indiana and after inspecting it I agree.

I have decided its a little rich for me. I think it is going to sell north of $75K. Since I started this thread I will see it through. I really appreciate the input from all of you and I will keep the thread updated with any developments and what the car sells for on the 19th. If anyone has questions on the car feel free to ask since I have inspected the car. Whoever ends up with it is one lucky son of a gun.

.....north of 75K....?

So were you just asking if we thought the same of the value, in your original post?

Either way, thanks for sharing a very cool old mopar.

When I started the post I was not sure of the value (still not sure actually). I don't have much experience with Mopars especially Hemis. I have been buying and selling 68-71 Chevelles for 25 years. Based on what you all have said, looking at some comps and inspecting the car I think north of 75K. Of course what I think is just a guess and is not worth the paper its written on. Who knows what it will sell for. We will see on the 19th.

Sweet. You have certainly added interest from the mopar crowd.

Sinc you are a chevy guy I can now understand why you were asking......

Well, it is possible that the car could have been repainted in the 16 years between 1968 & 1984 when this fellow bought it.

Here's a picture of the stripes it should have...

I would say its worth north of 85k as it sits.

Totally agree with dieseldazzle.. If this car is all there 85K is a bargain. My 67 Hemi GTX sold for north of 140K twice before I bought it. It is almost totally original and completely restored with bullet proof documentation. There were fewer 68 Hemi GTX's shipped than 67.

How is it possible for a car to be "almost totally original" and "completely restored" at the same time? Enquiring minds want to know? :shruggy:

If I were a cynical person, I would swear that the OP joined here with the express purpose of picking out brains to see what we think it should be worth and/or advertising the car for sale.

But I am not cynical and would never think that.

Stranger things have happened?

I guess we will see what contributions he makes to the site in the future.

Got my fingers crossed...I still have faith in humanity!!
