We have flights booked for June and our return flight goes into JFK in New York. The connecting flight goes out of LaGuardia! We didn’t realize this when we booked them. So we have to get from one to the other. There are shuttle options available but I was wondering if anyone has done this. What’s the best option? Taxi, Uber, private shuttle?

Never heard of such a thing.
So you if you have baggage you need to collect it, leave the airport, travel to another one and go through security again.
I'd consider changing my flight.

@HEMI-ITIS could probably get you there in record time.
But you better have some time on your hands to do this.

Yes that’s right. It’s a three hour layover and we’ll travel without checked baggage. The two airports are about 11 miles apart, Google maps is currently showing 56 minutes. There are shuttle services available so it seems that this is not uncommon. We are going to look into other flights.

Besides the problem with LaGaurdia is they have such limited runway space.
You leave the gate and sit on the plane for at least 45 minutes every time before you take off.

JFK is located on the south of Queens near Jamaica Bay, while LaGuardia is located on the north of the boro near Flushing Bay. Yes, your options are pretty much taxi, uber, shuttle, and bus. I'd do either the uber or shuttle. LaG used to be a real $hithole, but it's been modernized to be a really nice airport.

I would just Uber there. Sadly no direct public transportation between the 2 airports. Pending when you need to travel between airports be aware of some heavy traffic. By car it’s pretty simple, Van Wyck expressway to the Grand Central Parkway. The Van Wyck can be heavy near the airport.

There is a shuttle service for $11.40 per person it seems. Have not contacted them yet. It might be the best option as there is six of us. We are going to Jamaica in June, not my choice, and we got notice that the time of our return flight got changed. We have the option to accept the new time so we might be able to reject that and pick a whole new return flight. Just trying to educate myself on this situation and thought I’d pick the brains here. I did not do the booking but I am the one that caught the two airport situation after it was all booked.

I hate that s--thole, I avoid that state & especially NYC as much as possible

Frequent flyer here. Been in and through NY lots of times. You say 3 hour layover, but if your flight is delayed for any amount of time, which happens frequently, then it is less than 3 hours. You also have to consider your time it takes to Deplane the aircraft and get outside to catch your ride. If your in back of the plane that could take 20 minutes or more just to get off the plane. 11 miles from JFK to LGA could take longer than an hour depending on traffic. Also security lines at LGA are always very very long. Could be up to an hour wait. Also once through security, you still have to get to your gate. The way the terminal is laid out it could be another 30-45 minute walk to your gate, depending on how physically fit you are. The terminal inside does not have people movers or a tram, so it’s a very tiring walk. There is one shuttle that you can board outside that takes you to select locations at different terminals, but if you’ve never been to LGA you will never find it, as it’s not clearly marked. I would recommend trying to change your flights.

IF you still decide to try switching airports at your layover then definitely Uber as it’s more reliable and there are plenty waiting at the airport. Uber also has vans and suvs to pick from. Make sure you are set up with the Uber app on your phone and have a payment method installed. Get yourself familiar with how to use Uber beforehand, don’t try to learn Uber at JFK. Worse case if you can’t get a van or SUV, order 2 Ubers and split up, which could also cause problems. If you do get 2 Ubers, then 2 of you will need the Uber app to order separately. Sign yourself up for clear pass before you leave. This can be done at your departure or departure layover airport. There are Clear Pass stations right before entering security checkpoints. Clear pass will get you head of the line privileges through security and will save you time at LGA. Don’t try to enroll in clear pass at LGA, have this done before you get there. TSA precheck is the same thing, but I am pretty sure you don’t have that. Lastly eat your Wheaties that morning for your OJ Simpson trek across LGA to your gate.

Superman.

Did I get it right?

@RR Fan Dan Thank you so much! Great info. Forewarned is forearmed.
No problem. You should take into consideration if you fail. Worse case if you do try and fail and miss your flight the airlines won’t leave you stranded. They will get you on the next available flight that has seats. That could also take awhile because all six of you might not get on the same plane. And you might get stuck overnight or even days waiting at the airport for a plane that is not full.

Ya, I realize all that. We’re going to look into other flight options.

It was a shithole when I flew out of there in 1969 & it was still a shithole when I flew out of there around 2017.....

If possible, I would change your flight, either get a connecting flight out of Dulles or Baltimore. Don’t get separated and keep your wallet in your front pocket.

The way things are going in this country I would avoid any travel ,hell I’m afraid to leave my house and my family came to this country in 1670 .

This is just uninformed paranoia.
Everyone there has a ticket and has passed through security.
They are just trying to get somewhere.
You really think pick-pocketing is a real threat at the airport?
Most people I meet at the airport or on planes are pefectly honest and pleasant.
