So I go to pull the cam out of my 440 thinking it was a purple shaft cam only to find out it's not. Can anyone help with a number I found on the cam? 891597. No other markings.
Part number doesn't start with a P. And it's not purpleWhat’s the tell-tale that it’s not a MP cam?
In one of PR's links they mention measuring lobes. Do at least two intakes and exhausts. That will help straighten the curvesSo I go to pull the cam out of my 440 thinking it was a purple shaft cam only to find out it's not. Can anyone help with a number I found on the cam? 891597. Interesting. I guess a machine shop can tell if it's been parkerized? The actual part numbers on MP cams didn’t appear until close to the end of their run.
Prior to that there was a code with paint dawbs.
The last MP cam I had my hands on was a 528 solid I purchased new myself.
No paint on it anywhere.
I posted a couple links in my previous post where your number came up wrt Mopar cam discussions.
Do you know what “parkerized” is on a cam?
It’s the black finish on the cam lobes.
If your cam is parkerized, it’s almost certainly not a MP cam.
If the lobes are not parkerized, it probably is a MP cam.
