64Bel Get Well Soon

Thanks for asking, guys. I was at the doc on Monday and it's going well, although a little slow for the healing of the leg bones. Not concerning to them since it's only been a little over 6 weeks since surgery as of Monday (7 weeks tomorrow). They checked my vitamin D level and it's low, so they upped my vitamin D from 2,000 IU/day to 50,000 IU twice a week. 10 more days of keeping it elevated. PT and being able to put weight on it begins on April 14th. I'm really looking forward to that. Not the least of the reasons is being able to take a real standing shower again. Sitting showers have been a big step up from sponge baths, but not as good as a standing one.

I was glad to see my insurance covered the $116k hospital bill for the surgery. Jeez, and it was just outpatient! $14k for just the hardware. Who knew that one 4" screw costs $636.?
The surgeon was another $45k. I got more details of the damage and repairs from his bill. Broken fibula, tibia, ankle, foot, 3 broken metatarsals, ligament repair. Adding up his bill, the ER bill, the hospital bill, and other bills, I'll be approaching $200k before long. Think about that as an aging do it yourselfer when you think you're saving money by doing it yourself! Overall, I'm doing great and still feeling fortunate knowing it could have been worse.

Glad to hear you are healing, I just ran across this. I don't know how I missed it. I had to quit the do it yourself projects a few years ago myself. Age has it's limitations.

Keep your spirits up Dave....it won't be long and this will hopefully be just a memory.

Glad to hear you're makin progress Dave!

Making progress, Mario! I had my first physical therapy appointment on Monday, which was the first day I could put weight on my leg. So, I've been doing a little "walking" in the boot with crutches. I even drove home from the appointment, but it was difficult getting behind the wheel. I'm going to try it again in a few days to see if I can get in by myself. It's amazing how difficult it is to walk after 9 weeks of not walking. A lot of muscles are waking up, but the biggest thing is getting the ankle to work like it should. It's a slow process. I still keep it elevated as much as I can and get some swelling at the end of the day after a few sessions of walking- not unexpected. I thought I'd start going back to the office this week, but I was really wrong about that. I have to get my strength up before I can do that. I just keep working on it and it's getting better bit by bit. On Tuesday morning I cooked myself an egg for breakfast. It felt good to do that again, but it really wiped me out!
Thanks for asking, my friend! :moparsmiley:

Good to hear you are on the mend. Every day will bring improvements; just don't overdo it. Follow your medical team's instructions.
My wife had left knee replacement 6 weeks ago, and has had a great recovery. She saw her surgeon the other day, and he was delighted with her progress, and said she could drive again.

Same here! Either I'm moving a lot slower these days or this site moves too fast. Or both....
Ditto. One of the things that irks me about this site is how much I miss - and this one is no exception...
Now having read through the entire thread, all I can think is "HOLY SNIKEYS" Dave!
So sorry you've gone through all that - but I'm glad to read you're in good spirits and have fought the good
fight towards recovery, which most know is the key to such things.
Here's praying it gets a little easier for you now.
