The 45 degree lip lids were used on the fiberglass hood cars (A12 b-bodies and Trans Am and N94 equipped e-bodies). Common assumption is the design would help keep the air filter element dryer when driving in the rain.

Side-by-side comparison of the two styles of "440 SIXPACK" emblems. NOS example is clearly an early production example based on the style of packaging. I've seen multiple examples of this style on survivors. The last picture shows restored emblems in both styles, OE on top.
I recently came up with a technique to repaint “340 Four Barrel” and “440 SIXPACK” emblems that closely matches the factory original appearance. See attached pics for results.
