Wow, I gotta get me some of THIS gas-o-line!

OK...now doggone you guys... I didnt know there were other kinds of those radios other than the Sinclair one. But since Mr Davefinan showed a Standard/Amoco one, and my dad worked for Amoco his entire post grad career [and they even paid for his grad school...] I gotta have one. So I went looking. Found one. And bought one. And its different than the one pictured above, so Im gonna hafta get one like that too. and other variations if extant.
My wife really appreciates that guys...
:lol:Always fun to spend other peoples' money. :)

We did that, but ''yankees''? never heard of em. Cardinals were the only REAL team in baseball...
My dad was friends with Stan Musial and Red Schoendiest. Cards, even though they ended the Yanks run in '64, I rooted for them afterwards when they had Roger Maris. And, I enjoyed the 67 World Series when the Cards beat the Red Sux. Bob Gibson was the best RH pitcher I'd ever seen.

Here is my transistor radio from when I was a kid. Many a Tiger game was listened to in this radio, my Grandpa was a Kendall Oil rep, and we would get all manor of cool Kendall stuff from him. I used to have the GT-1 radio too, not sure where that one went. I still have a case of Kendall chain lube from the 70’s that I use on my mini bike chain, I’m into my 2nd can of that too. Good stuff!

Very cool. Met Stan the Man as a kid at one of the Cardinals/Oilers [Tulsas triple A team] exhibition games; got his autograph on a copy of his 'Hitting Instruction' albums. Warren Spahn was the manager at Tulsa when I was a kid - his ranch was about 10 miles from where my mom grew up - usta drive past it going to see her parents.
Not to get too far off subject in this thread...like I havent already - but back in the day, guys played the game because they LOVED it; most major leaguers had winter jobs, they didnt make billions of dollars like now [and the game is much poorer for it...] Notice this photo please -

See the house there 'above' my dad's Corvette? Ken Boyer lived there. Like Ken Boyer of the Cardinals. He lived in a very middle class neighbourhood in West Tulsa. His wife stayed there after he passed away until she too went to her reward.
Different times... :(

Yep, couldn't agree more. Ken was brother of Clete Boyer who played magnificent 3rd base for the Yankees back then. ( Clete always batted 8th in the lineup before the pitcher's spot... when pitchers actually batted. )

Seems to me that Mr Boyer - Ken - played for some nondescript team from the new york area for a short time once...:poke: I never [really] held that against him. Much.
Hmmm... just thought of something; wonder if all that had something to do with my wanting to play third and have 14 as my number?

OK - back to Sinclair...
Think I may have shared these before, but a couple of photos of a Sinclair station in the 50s owned by a man we became friends with in the 60s. Then I gotta go - this is all a metric tonne of fun, but Im gonna be late for church. Happy Easter y'all...

Ken Boyer was a fantastic ballplayer, not only fielder but an offensive threat. Yep, he went to the Metsies after the Cards, I don't think he was on their 67 Championship team.

Thanks to this thread, I now own a battery radio and a fuel pump radio.

Speaking of the old Yankees, of which I was a fan; (we didn't have a team here in NJ), so I rooted for the old Yanks. Mickey Mantle was my childhood hero. In fact it was one of the first books I ever bought & read. That bad knee of his was from a football injury if memory serves me. I was there at his retirement and part of the 9 minute standing ovation! Gives me goose bumps just thinking about it!

What's a good price on the gas pump radio, Scott? I am watching one on a local auction that is at $20.00. Taxes and auction fees add another 30%. I am also chasing Franklin Mint diecast model cars on the same auction.

$20 sounds like a great price for that radio, I would buy it for that price in a minute, fees or not.

I paid 50 for the one i found

Thanks, Scott. I guess I can throw a little $$$ at it, then. It is still in the box it came in, with the leather pouch.

Well... didja get it? In the box and the leather pouch.... doubles the 'value'. From what i can see, the little pouch deals are pretty rare; dont remember what happened to the one Ive had forever, tho I still have the box. What brand is it?

Sinclair pump radio. In a local estate sale. Preview is tomorrow, and online auction concludes Wednesday night. I will let you know on Thursday if I got it. Right now, I am winning with my $20.00 bid, but I do not expect it to hold. Bidding on some Franklin Mint diecast model cars from same auction, too.
I have never seen one before, mainly because I wasn't looking for one, likely. Just a total co-oincidence that one came up for sale when it was a topic on here.

Good luck!
Mr Engelhardt just paid 50 for one above, and since someone showed me there were Amoco ones extant, I just jumped up and paid 70 for one of those in the box, with earpiece and little paper booklet but no carrying pouch. So.... if I paid 70, figure the market value to be 35... ;) / :(
