Yet another electrical gremlin in my 62 Fury. First time out this year and no turn signals (none at all). Thought for once it might be something simple so i picked up a new flasher… Thought id try an electronic flasher instead of the old thermal. No luck, still no signal lights.
Bench checked the new and old flashers and had like 54 Ohms on the old one and OL on the new one… Is this normal? Now I'm wondering if maybe the electronic one wont work on these old cars for some reason? Thoughts?

If it is a two wire flasher just jump the two wire terminals together. Your lights should come on when trying either side they just wont flash. If they do not come on you have a wiring or switch problem.

That’s a simple enough test for the flasher. Never thought of that. I’ll try it tomorrow, although I am suspecting one of the other two possibilities…. Any suggestions for testing the switch in place?

Make sure there is power at one terminal of the flasher. If there is, look at the color of the other wire. Find that color at the turn switch wiring connector. Then see if there is power there. You have to have the a good flasher plugged in or the jumper to perform this test. If there is power the switch is most likely bad.

Thanks panora, I’ll give it a try. Nothing I hate worse than electrical problems under the dash. I’m too old and fat to get under the dash and it’s a pain to keep taking the seat in and out…

Back to the flashers though - is it normal to have resistance across the thermal flasher and none across the electronic? Any conceivable problems using the electronic one in this car?

Not sure on the electronic. I never felt any reason to use an electronic flasher. Why reinvent the wheel.

In the meantime

No power to either the black or red wire at the flasher plug…. Also found that my wipers aren't working - and they are connected by the black wire. Black wire from the flasher goes to a junction where a line comes off the the wiper switch and another that goes to the ignition switch.
Does the flasher get power from the red or black line??

You will have to get a wiring diagram and read up on it.

Agggg, another loose wire. Black wire to the ignition switch had pulled loose…
