Good day folks.
I can't find a push button 904 and shifter setup for my 63 Plymouth, so I'm going to buy a used slant six engine with a 904 automatic from an 83 D150. I know I'll have to get the drive shaft modified to fit, and plenty of other mods. I was wondering if I can use a points distributor in this engine? Also, what other junk can I lose? Is it lean burn? Can I get rid of that?
Any ideas on what kind of used floor shift I can sub in? It's a three on the tree right now and I don't want to get into something extravagant, like an aftermarket column setup. So many questions, sorry, LOL.
Any other tips/hints would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Wally

ok,from the top
the truck is gonna have a truck oil pan,oil pickup, exhaust setup.
make sure those areas work for your car app/look at your current engine setup.

yes,you can use your points distributor, but id recc that you install a pertronix unit/electronic inside that distributor.
id also advise checking the Lobes on the distributor as well, they may be worn smooth.

lean burn is the carb and distrib and compooter from truck, ditch them.
use a Carter carb from a 72 up mopar 2 bbl 318 or slant six.
you can even buy these new dirt cheap, off ebay, but warning they are chinese clones.
i have had hit and miss with these, some had flashing inside, dirt etc, others worked perfectly, and theres one that has a passage blocked and can never be used.
which reminds me,none of this is even worth doing if that six in the truck isnt a Super six/225 cubic inch,Fair warning there.
Easy way to tell instantly visually is the 225 Comes with a 2bbl carb and not a 1 bbl.

the driveshaft yes, youll need a new one.
dont measure until the trans is installed in the car and sitting Loaded for max yoke set.

floor shifters, theres a zillion out there, pick the simple one,you probably will never need a megashifter with lockouts lol.
the one you want should come with a Curved Arm to clear the side of trans.

hope any of this helps,Cheers.

Hey Wally, I'm gonna be pulling the /6, auto, from my '65 Coronet, hopefully in the near future. It'll be up for grabs, but Alberta is quite a haul...

Thanks for the quick reply. So, what's so bad about the non super six? The engine in my 63 is a 225 single bbl, and it runs great. I imagine that the later model may have a few less hp, but is there any other reason to avoid it?
Thanks again, Wally.

Thanks Vandan, but the old 3 speed manual is ready to give up, lol. So I need to figure something out quick if I want to use it as my daily this summer. And ya, shipping would be a killer

Introduced in 1977, the Super Six replaced the standard one-barrel carburetor with a two-barrel Carter BBD carburetor, along with a matching intake manifold and air cleaner. This upgrade resulted in noticeable improvements in performance, including idle quality, off-idle response, and acceleration, while maintaining acceptable fuel economy

Thats why you want a super six :) but you Dont want the compooter controlled parts of the 80s,which is why i recced those parts as well.
