I eventually came to the conclusion that the extra thick flex plate is the culprit. I'm not sure how many would approve of this solution, but until a better one comes along I took 3/16" off the face of the starter mounting surface. Seems to work fine, at least I know the engine runs now!
I am using a mini starter. From what I can see, both starters have fit flush against the transmission case. I don't completely understand the comment about the bolt on the flex plate interfering but I will look into it. Can anyone attest to having used one of these thicker flex plates and if...
Swapped starter out and replaced with one I know is good. The new starter worked for a few turns then the same symptom, the starter is either not engaging or just slightly engaging enough to turn the engine for a partial revolution. Photo shows where teeth are engaged and the corner of several...
Good question, I'll check my part number. I did manually move the drive gear out and it interferes that way too. It's a complete rebuild and the old starter was completely different design (original style). Sounds like the starter is either bad or incorrect. I was hoping I overlooked something...
I have a 440 RB, automatic trans with a short high torque starter. When the bendix drive gear pops out it hits the ring gear and spins without engaging the teeth. Like the centerlines of the 2 gears are too close together. With the starter bolts loose there doesn't seem to be any available...
Hi all,
I'm missing the fitting that connects the high psi hose to the steering gearbox in my 68. The threaded hole in the gear box doesn't seem to be an NPT thread form. Is this fitting something I can find in a hardware store, or is it one that I need to buy from an auto part supplier?
Thanks...
Hello,
I'm installing new steel A/T cooling lines and wondering if anyone with experience can say if I will need to remove TTI header to get them in place. I don't remember exactly how the originals were routed and don't have a good picture to go by.
Thanks
When I got my 68 GTX these rear window track roller parts were laying inside under the rear window assembly. I can see where they go but it seems like they are missing a bushing or guide of some sort that keeps the spherical ball in the guide rail. is this something that can be purchased new or...
The mount shown above is the mount I need for my 68, but everywhere I look I only find this one...
Are there 2 types and where can I find the one in zyzzyx's post?
The Full (6 qt.) mark on the dip stick sets the static level about even with the rod bolts at lowest point of rotation. I'm thinking that when circulating it should be safely below the stroke but plenty of supply?
What is the correct oil level in relation to the rotating assembly? I am building a 494 CID with 4.150" stroke and am using Hemi 6 qt. pan. Right now the full dipstick mark is about the same as the lowest point the bottom of the connecting rods see. How far into the oil surface should the the...
I installed the Lokar cable set on my Dodge 360/727 and have never been able to achieve correct upshift and passing gear operation with the same adjustment. Where can we find said throttle lever extension?
Hi all, I have a 68 GTX that I've been working on for several years but am getting serious about finishing her up within the year. Anxious to see others rides and will help when I can if I have crossed that bridge.
