I am wondering if you have the correct coupler. I got mine back in 2015 along with the Borgeson gear. It is the same length as the original except for the welded on adapter for the shorter steering gear. I had the same trouble as you with trying to pean those ears over, I bought the spring...
...had steering box mounting bolts back out but only on the Firm Feel Stage 3 unit that had that dreaded slop in the center of travel. I think the dead spot led to the loosening of the bolts because my Borgeson unit has not loosened up at all.
If you're lucky, the threads in the K member may be...
got an overhead door in today, well almost. Needs a 2x4 at least probably throw a 2x6 on top of the 2x12 a little short. also got my borgeson steering box installed
Added the pump and brackets. Changed the crank pulley. Swapped the manual steering box for the Borgeson. Shortened the steering shaft and used Bergman’s coupler. You don’t need to cut the steering shaft, just collapse it the amount necessary.
Thanks to everyone for the positive feedback and their thoughts. Just wanted to mention I used the Borgeson steering box with the Bergman direct fit (no modification coupler) and do not have any issues on a 67 coronet. No hissing, no noise, no leaks and solved all my steering woes (no leaks...
...fading after use, and the fluid stays cooler. I used a Derale cooler P/N 13309. Inexpensive, compact, and it does the job. Comes with AN6 fittings installed.
BTW I have not noticed any strange noises (hissing, etc) coming from my Borgeson unit. Very happy with the conversion, and no leaks.
Nope the box is leaking like I originally posted. Just make note that if you’re using a Borgeson Power Steering Pump you may want to check how many shims is in it before you fire it up. After research I have found several people had to add shims or take shims out.
...shimmed and was spot welded together when I bought the car and my additional modification hasn’t helped.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Or recommendations of a new entire pump assembly?
I was looking at the Borgeson on Summit, but it has entirely different bracket. Why is this so confusing?
...arms but I'd suggest against it.
They convert a stock 15.7 to 1 box to approximately 12 to 1. They'd have the same effect on the 14 to 1 Borgeson, taking it close to 10 to 1. That seems way too fast for street driving. Maybe for an off road rally car but for the street, I'd think that 10 to 1...
Did Borgeson or BAC ever say anything about the use of fast ratio pitman or idler arms? Are they compatible with the borgeson setup? Are they not recommended or cause any issues? I installed a new borgeson gear box, hoses and coupler with a new saginaw pump. I also installed new pst tie rods...
...no anti-roll bars and is very softly sprung (and quite worn after 53 years). We'll firm it up a bit. Only things I'm missing now are the rear anti-roll bar and front torsion bars.. already in progress along with an upgraded steering box (Borgeson). And yes, rear disc brakes are on the...
A search of the forum would reveal several recent threads on the Borgeson steering box and the various members that have installed them.
In short, YES, a fluid cooler is helpful.
The need for one will depend on several things including how aggressive you drive, the age of the pump, the width of...
