...I have a 71 chally that was converted to a unisteer rack & pinion when I bought it. Dont do it. It’s so horrible I’m reverting it back to a borgeson and bought the entire steering parts from pst: fast ratio steering, torsion bars, lca rebuild kit.
The damn front tires toes in on first gear...
No, if you don't strenghten the original steering box support on the K-member, like Kern Dog did, you will see it move without the sector support, especialy with wider front tires.
...same for about the same money. It fought them the entire time though, had to do it 3 times (I have all 3 print outs). Everything new with a Borgeson kit I just put in. Most money I ever paid for an alignment but I will say it's the best driving/ handling mopar I've ever had in the 30yrs of...
...prepped torsion bar car. The money it costs might be worth it if there was a notable improvement but there isn't.
Also, regarding the Borgeson swap....You made a few mistakes on that. It does not require the user to modify the steering column. Peter Bergman has been including a hybrid bolt...
And most of the suspension is off... anyone need some freshly rebuilt 10" front brakes? Ordered a rebuilt pump, new lines, and a cooler (the Borgeson box needs a cooler). I didn't take the steering column out today, figured that's a good job for the rainy days coming in the forecast since I...
I'm interested to know this too, for a '70 Charger though. I've seen some YouTube vids with guys suggesting the same thing. Mostly to adjust for as much caster as possible, I believe. Skatpak, feel free to PM me if you have alignment setup tips for second-gen Chargers. Thanks!
...needs to be rebuilt. Car is believed to be all original. New Interior from Legendary Interiors, New Carpet, New Gauge Cluster from Instrument Specialties, New Borgeson Power Steering, New Bumpers Front and Rear from Auto Metal Direct. I will load a bunch of new pics over the next couple of...
My 65 is not done yet but I'm using a Borgeson box that I got from Peter at BAC, one of our sponsors. My car is an original p/s car. My updates include an Indy low deck all aluminum wedge. Same block they use for the Hemi. No clearance issues, actually better than the stocker. The pump I'm using...
When I was looking, net wise, at that car my thoughts were Gen3 swap/Borgeson box/SST A41 trans/ vintage air or other a/c package/full suspension upgrades plus brake upgrade/rewire it.
Kern Dog is correct. I also bought my kit from Bergman, and he not only sells you everything you need, he ports the Borgeson box for better flow. BTW, once you've got it installed, you'll LOVE it.
If you have manual steering now you’ll likely have to cut the shaft, and yes a different coupler is required. Some use the u-joint borgeson style coupler and others use the coupler sold by Bergman which most closely resembles the OEM coupler. If I ever did a Borgeson box, which I recently...
...did you buy the steering box?
I don't mean to annoy you with these questions, it just seems odd that you'd have this problem. I wonder if maybe Borgeson had a run of units with the wrong size holes drilled in them. It isn't a fatal flaw since a quickie fix is made at the hands of a smart...
Ok so the last few days I've gotten some more stuff done. I mounted up the new PS pump, ran the lines, and added the Borgeson recommended PS cooler. Pulled the grille out so I can 1) Put in better headlights (Hella E-codes with relays/new wiring, waiting on shipping), and 2) I can repaint it...
This does not look right. The center link is higher at the idler arm. This car has a Borgeson steering box on it. Looks to me like something is a miss.
Do some research & you'll hopefully realize there are better options...
Avoid Unisteer unless you want the turning radius of a big rig..
Get ahold of Pete Bergman & look at the Borgeson conversion he sells..
