Theres a book out there....actually more than one that lists the factory PARTS that were different/available to make a maxie car what it is as compared to a regular sedan. I dont have time to lay my hands on mine at the moment, but you should know, the list is considerable.
Go on summit (or jegs, etc) site and search Trans-Dapt grommets. I found some, and some breathers similar to post #4 there for an odd situation like that once. You should be able to find grommets that fit a more modern (70's-80's) pcv valve too.
My '64 is exactly like this.....but only to a degree.... as described above..once you are well above idle they are bright, and do not continue to brighten further.
My gut says post #2 tells you what you need to resolve. I dont think a heavier oil is a resolution. I would get a little messy, maybe make up some half valve covers even and some drop cloths... Run it at an idle and see if the valve train lubrication is correct at all rockers.... If its not...
Don't anyone laugh, but isn't it possible to do this with a cut-up open-chamber head in certain engine families?? Not 100% sure if bbm would be one of them.
You can always tap it to 1/2", then use a 1/2"x3/8" bush to put your original pickup back in. IIWM, i'd use a harder set threadlock on the 1/2" threads.
Knowing nothing here..... but doesnt propane need very high compression to be effective for power?? Like they use it in diesels, and it's like nitrous for them....for gas engines, not so much.
And the guy who picked up a couple NG vans to flip...i would not be surprised to find out they came...
