On the headlight trim rings I just used Rustoleum Metallic Satin Nickle.

I scored this installation kit some time ago cheap. Occasionally they show up on Ebay.....
I just used that to piece in a couple inches of MIA plastic for my left surround, reattached the top at the cracked chrome trim, and filled miscellaneous cracks in both sides. It was also suggested I open up the mounting holes for shrinkage of the plastic surrounds to fit on the outer chrome...
FWIW, you might check for a hardened shim behind the pinion bearing race. Two I've taken apart have had one.
You may be able to save your old bearing for a setup bearing using a press and sharp splitter. I pull the race and use it cover the bearing then wrap my leather welding apron around it JIC.
