    727 converter questions

The converter in my barracuda will occasionally lose it's fluid....draining back into the trans (I think). Then when you try to make it move it barely moves. In a couple minutes of running time it feels normal. It's an 8 inch Coan. Actually I don't know if this drain back is caused by the...

Junkyard 5.7 hemi with 22-68% leak down, just rings?

With the leak down tester installed you should be able to hear where the air is leaking from on the cylinder with 68% leakage. Are you looking to purchase this motor or do you own it?

    Improved big block valley pan?

I'll be happy if that's the problem. I was worried because the engine has plenty of runs on it but runs the number and all signs are good.......except cracking the valley pan. I'ss I'll be happy if that's the problem. A friend at the track suggested that may be the trouble. I'll find out this...

    Improved big block valley pan?

I developed an oil leak a few weeks ago on my Charger (499 cu in., .620 lift flat tappet cam, 906 heads) and it turned out the valley pan gasket had cracked. It had seen a lot of passes so I just replaced it. The new one cracked in one race (10 passes). Seems like one of the valves on my headers...

    Mancini's Purple Shaft cams

Oh yes. I have check springs ordered (always before I used clay) since I would prefer not to remove the heads. Since a purple shaft is not available, it looks like I'll wind up with a .600 lift, approx. 270 @ .050 from someone. I've used Ultradyne in the past. Thanks again. bry

    Mancini's Purple Shaft cams

OK, the story is this: My son and I pulled a much higher horsepower engine out of this car to use in a chassis car that he is building. The engine with these specs is on an engine stand in my shop with a Bullet cam installed for my Charger. It's fairly mild and designed for a slightly heavier...

    Mancini's Purple Shaft cams

Has anyone used or heard anything (good or bad) about the Purple Shaft grind cams that Mancini lists? Interested in a .590 flat tappet or equivalent to duplicate past performance out of a 440 with iron heads. Just saw them on their website. Bry

FOR SALE Stock length 8 3/4 differential housing and Moser axles.

I have some parts left over from a drive train upgrade that have been gathering dust, dirt and some rust in a back shed. Time to see if anyone local (more or less) could use them: Parts are from a 1973 Charger. Originally was a 400 4 speed car. Stock length 8 ¾ housing: Brazed patch in rear...

    Coolant in oil, fresh build

It does look washed down. I got this bad news at a track a few years ago when a cylinder cracked near the bottom of the bore........still ran the number but made caramel soup out of the oil. It was the second race since a fresh build. I had another block but $1200 dollars worth of machining...

    New 440 build issues

In my opinion (everyone has one): I'd use the 21 idle - 35 degree total timing I'd get more fuel to wide open throttle and idle and less at part throttle: 13 afr at wide open 13-13.5 at idle, 13.5 -14 at part throttle No way would I advance the timing with the wide open throttle so lean.
