I guess I didn’t make clear in my last post that I was referring to good lifters, but I did in post #96. Not sure going back 15 years is far enough. And also to be clear we are only talking about aftermarket Hydraulic cams/lifters for BBM.
Let me try to put a finer point on it.
I assume you know what valve float is, is that correct? It is simply when the force of the valve train (mass x acceleration) is greater than the force of the valve spring. Essentially, the lifter loses contact with the cam lobe around max lift and then...
When you could get high quality lifters with tru-arc retainers, racers/performance enthusiasts set the preload at or near zero. I set my lifter preload at 0.003. I could run 7000 rpm.
Unlikely you can do this with today’s aftermarket HFT lifters. And with that, just run what you have.
This. I don’t think folks realize the cost to manufacturer low volume parts. I think we’re getting pretty close to the point where some stuff will no longer be made when current inventory is gone.
Indy wants $1040 for the 440 2D aluminum intake. The market for that intake is pretty low.
Thanks.
Not sure if you already stated it, but are you planning to lighten the piston and pin, or live with the 1075 gram weight. How light do you think you can get them? Seems like removing 125 grams would be pretty easy and make a big difference on parts life at rpm.
I purposely said it's "generally" reflection of price. Unfortunately, no one seems to be without some quality issues today. But it still makes sense to stack the deck to your favor, IMO. If we're talking specifically roller lifters, I like and would use again Isky Red Zones, and probably...
