I don't need an overflow tank if I keep the water just above the flow tubes. I find that this is sufficient to prevent the coolant from boiling over.

I doubt that having the "correct" carb is important for a clone. Correct aircleaner would be more noticeable.

Sounds like the motor has a ground issue. The motor itself has to be grounded.
