I’ve had my battery neg disconnected for the past week while I installed a new dash. Today after getting done wiring up a new oilpressure gage and an oilpressurepressure sending unit for the idiot I reconnected the battery neg terminal and immediately went up in smoke. The hot wire from the...
Yup, lots of questions. I've used Freeze12 in the past and iirc, it was also propane derived. I did some research on it but there wasn't much available and talking to a few that was in the automotive AC industry, I got a few questions answered. One of the questions was is it compatible with the...
I run a 20-50 oil in a 360 AMC
Jeep CJ.
Not necessarily a performance
engine. Low idle rpm's at 200 deg
average while crawling over stuff
in New Mexico's SE deserts.
Came time for a valve job and after
pulling the heads, found there was
no ridge at the top of the cylinders.
Still runs 60 psi oil...
Put a windage tray and a baffled oil pan in that thing before you spin a bearing, sounds like you're driving the car in a fairly spirited manner and the oil is sloshing around in the pan uncovering the oil pump pickup momentarily, a gulp of air into the oil pump = nooilpressure.
I didn't think there had been ANY non-interference OHC engines since the death of the Mopar 2.2/2.5's....but I suppose it's possible.
I used to work in a metric service lane. Noisy chain? Replace the entire timing set. Noisy tensioner/idler? Replace the entire set. Belt? Check the mileage and...
!!! Oy. Almost every service manual from the late 60's through he early 70's has the procedure for making a RV2 dipstick for the oil level. If the system is open - free of pressure already, it's a no brainer. Small 1/8" NPT pipe plug on the pass side of the compressor. Use Ester oil, as it...
I had a 1970 Plymouth GTX, 440 six barrel, 4 speed. I was driving on interstate 5 near Seattle, I noticed the oilpressure gauge started to flucuate, and boom, I was running a little hard though.
...track racing, was running 6200 in the straights(pretty high for a pontiac) eventually three rods let go after doing a full lap with nooilpressure and it was still running drove into the pits.
At topeka going about 100mph at the 1/8, the car slid sideways and lost traction, the 440 split two...
People have tested the hardness of the metal in old cams and lifters and compared them to new stuff. In the cases that I have seen, the metal quality seems to be similar. The failures people are having may not be the metal.
What else has changed?
The oil has, a LOT. The oil with high detergent...
Heck yeah! We primed the oil, found the oil line for the pressure gauge was cracked, fixed that. Tried starting it, turns out the distributor was 180 out. So once it started, after 3 minutes I noticed the smoke got thicker and it was probably more than just header paint, so I pointed to my...
A friend just had his flat tappet fail after about 18,000 miles. So the cam was well broken in. Nothing else changed but the oil, so I feel it must have been that.
I do believe oil film is important, as well as ZDDP. My personal preference is to use a well respected oil formulated with ZDDP...
The 2nd test drive last wk in the 330 showed that the dipstick puking oil was not necessarily because of the header vac valves or the muffler back pressure but was crank case pressure because I disconnect the hoses from the valves and connected them together and cut a slit in one hose. Not fond...
I had a great time, especially considering a con rod installed a window in my block Monday night, for those who don't already know.
Absolutely NO warning. Oilpressure has been fine, no knocks or rattles, zero steel or iron on the oil pan plug a week ago when I changed the oil and filter.
Heck...
Do you have the right sender on your engine? Oil light in the dash uses the short sender. An actual gauge in the dash uses the tall sender. Your GTX should have the short one.
It doesn't look like it's coming from the pressure sender. It looks dry. Also it's electric so nooil lines. I look with a light and all around the distributor is oil.
I got the engine mostly torn down today. The top end looks good, but I found out why it lost oilpressure. They said they shut it down when they heard it rattling, and the engine spins over easily so I am hoping no crank damage, but I haven't started pulling bearings yet. I ran out of energy.
I’m having the same problem with a 73 La 318 I’ve tryed twice my engine is in the car trying to prime it with cordless drill problems 1/2 qt on the floor but I do have oilpressure think there’s surpose to be a gasket on that double sided nut that holds flat plate to block the other side the...
