I agree. A R/T wouldn't have woodgrain.
This is an early car with the padded ash tray and the '67 type steering wheel. It would also have round vent knobs like a '67. I think all non-rallye '68's had a delete for the center A/C vents if not equipped with A/C. None of them got the center...
Bear in mind that a 295/50 will be almost a half inch shorter than a 255/60. A 295 will stand up a little on an 8" rim but on a 10" it will be noticeably shorter than a 255/60 on an 8" rim.
295/50's are a little wide for an 8" rim. For what it's worth, 295/50's on a 10" rim and 235/60's on an 8" rim are a widely accepted matching pair. The sidewall bulge and proportions just look right, the 295 is about a 1/2" taller than the 235. If you go any taller than a 245/60 or a 205/70...
VHT makes an "Epoxy Black" in a rattle can. It's purple with a strut or coilover shock or something on the can. That stuff is semi-gloss and when applied to bare metal I've hit it with a wire wheel on an angle grinder and it stays. I did some floor pans on a VW bBeetle chassis that the...
It does (or at least used to) come in a few shades. Black, white, gray, red maybe?
I switched to Raptor a few years ago, it's tintable or available in several different colors which you can also blend yourself. It lays out really nicely even with crappy shop air and a cheap suction siphon gun.
I would want to check the alignment. You can do it yourself at home with a tape measure and get a pretty good idea on the toe in. If it's 1/8 to 1/4 in you're probably ok...
As the front end comes up you'll get more positive caster as a side benefit. That should help handling all around. The steering will come back to center easier with a narrower (but longer) contact patch as well.
As the buyer or seller I would probably rather that the car was taken until the situation was sorted out. The whole thing stinks now. Even if they get the VIN reunited with the car it's going to have a stigma forever...
A few years ago there was a '59 Corvette that a guy had restored in Kansas. The state ended up confiscating it with the intent to destroy it because the guy had removed and reattached the VIN during the restoration. The guy spent a mountain of $$$ on lawyers and was able to stay the...
@QuickBpBp if you read through the entire 6 pages of this thread you will see that I agree with everything you said.
My opinion is that while there is cause for suspicion due to the multiple issues, I would have to see more evidence to believe that any fraud has been committed. I think the car...
This is why:
The number is stamped off center on the VIN tag. That, and the "hidden" body number on the core support is stamped "9G304552" instead of "9G104552."
There are some definite facts.
1. This car has traded hands several times in the past several years.
2. The "restoration" leaves something to be desired especially at the last asking price point..
3. The VIN tag had the number stamped off center
4. The core support had one digit mis-stamped but...
My dad's parents forced him to participate in sports as a kid. Because of that my parent's didn't push it on my brother and me. We did each have to pick one sport and do it for one entire season without quitting. We both did basketball for one year. I have found that I do enjoy watching...
I do enjoy seeing the cars on that show. The humor is a little off key most of the time but it's more entertaining than most other stuff on the boob toob!
