Strange that you're having that much trouble with it. Has the car been hit in the past perhaps? They have always fell into place for me.
I suppose you could leave it out but my guess would be some irritating rattles would develop over time. Again, it's there for a reason.
I redid the GCF file today and got the car to fire. I was able to locate the injector PN and DBW PN that I am using so it all seemed to work (at least that did).
I found this video you posted a while back that shows a dash without the rod. 69 Charger dash removal: I'll probably just leave it off.

Found and borrowed a pic on the internet for a 70 XH Charger. Looks like the part I posted, even has the 2 screw holes through the face. Just cant find much on the part number 2838672
Agreed. Practice, miles, feel. Keeping the next one longer will help too I think.
Btw, would a 23 spline make it relatively easier or difficult than the HD 18 Hemi?
