Broken water pump housing mounting tab on our 440

Please see attached picture.

We bought the block like this thinking we can get it fixed?!?!? Turns out to be a pain in the rear.
We would like to get some thoughts, ideas or directions on how to remedy this if at all possible.

It would cost so much to professionally repair, I would be looking for another block.

My bet is it'll never leak. Still has 2 bolts holding it. You could braze the piece back on without worry of cracking. I'd braze it then run a stud in the hole. As far as strength? I've seen wedge blocks with the inner bolt bosses to accept Hemi heads that were brazed on. As well as lifter bores being moved and brazed in. We are talking 800+ HP engines,

If I do look for another block, I've seen a lot of posts saying to get pre 74 engine because of emissions.
Are the blocks really that different?

No.

Blocks are blocks. You may want a later one for the larger thrust bearing.

This engine has never been started, If I did get another block, I believe the rings would
be good to reuse. I'm thinking maybe bearings also?

That ^^ or some chamfers and some cast rods and you can put that ear back on with little trouble. That or machine a plate to fit behind the mounting flange, tap it and use longer bolts. Some give up toooo easy...

I believe you just bought a 74 Charger from us, I think!?!?!?

Just put sealer on the gasket, it won't leak. Thick cast iron flanges there.

I have repaired blocks with damage like that with no issues. As mentioned already run a stud in that hole after the repair and it will be fine.

This is a repair using a Certanium 889 SP rods, a nickel alloy. No pre heat required. Should work fine in that area.

if the e.p.a gets it way the year of the engine will determined what emissions are mantuary no matter what the year of the car would be and or witch ever year is stricter on emissions.

I would aviation sealer both sides of the gasket and run it.... betting it would be fine, worse case scenario is fixing it later. But in aviation sealer i trust...
