    Trashed rocker assembly?

Valvetrain noise won't change with load. Are you sure don't have an exhaust leak at the head? Generally a exhaust leak makes way more noise under load. Easy to check. Get a piece of small hose. Have someone brake torque the car slightly. Listen by placing the hose around the exhaust/head juction...

Pushing oil out the breather, need better crankcase vent system

No pcv on this one, with only one breather in passenger side valve cover. You'll notice the valve covers are taller than stock, and the breather side has baffles. There is zero oil "mist" on top of the valve cover. There is almost no vacuum at hard acceleration. (the pcv valve ain't doing a...

1971 charger 383 no oil pressure fresh rebuild

Maybe you are missing an oil passage plug. If you have oil pressure, you will feel the drill load up and want to twist out of your hand. No, it is very unlikely that it is because of a bearing

Just found this on my shelf...was old when I got it out of the parts dept. at Dodge City when I worked there in '68.

I thought that was a great recomendation! It was legal...here in WI until around '73-'74. I quit when I started trucking in 1972. I only worked for the dealers and auctions...not anybody off the street Those different times... I recall my boss from Dallas Pat Cockey. I worked for him at an...

    318 Intake & Carb Advice

Mm, you may be right, but not gonna mess with any internals at this time. It runs to good, and reliable, still pushing about 60 on oil pressure when starting, and would get in it, and drive Coast to Coast, with No worries...

If you're depending on zinc to protect your flat tappet?

This is what I’ve learned though my readings. Now Im not a scientist or anything fancy just a guy that reads. If your depending on the zinc in your oil to protect your flat tappet cam, your looking at your oil backwards. Your first look should be looking at your oil’s ability to retain an oil...

New 360 build with oil leaking into coolant

Thanks 69 for the chime. I have ARP 144-3601 as per head manufacturer spec. At present they protrude approx 5/8" outside of the head. I measured the holes today and have at least 1"+ of depth, so not bottoming out that I can see. Also blew air in each with brake cleaner and no holes. But I did...

Pushing oil out the breather, need better crankcase vent system

How can this occur unless there is a vacuum in the crankcase? Never gonna happen under normal operating conditions. Water or condensation in the oil alone creates a pressure condition of steam. It's gotta go somewhere..... Probably out the breather. (Too much air in with no way to escape...

    71 abandoned 318

You didn't say how long it has been sitting. I am in the process of starting 5 old Mopars (2 Challengers and 3 Road Runners) that haven't been started in over 25 years. It's amazing how few of problems we've had. We've got 3 running and 2 to go. It's been fun. I'm not going to say what we did is...

    Re-Rebuilding the 440-493 in a 1970 Charger

Here it is awhile later and I'm still a bit curious about this issue. I made a 900 mile road trip recently and had 20 psi at warm idle. Rolling down the freeway at 70, approx 2100 rpms, I'm at 39 psi. That seems low to me. There are instances where numbers you read don't inspire confidence but...

New Engine Build - Low Oil Pressure Problem

Thank you for taking the time to respond and give advice on the procedure. I did remove the pump thinking I wanted the high volume feature anyway and I know it worked well on my engine before with less than 20,000 cause it was a season cruise only car. The pump I removed looked like the...

What RPM is Redline for a 1972 - 400 engine?

EXCELLENT REVIEW AND PRESITENTION. I've mentioned before, on my RS23V0A****** GTX, with 0.002"-0.0025" main and rod bearings clearance and 10W-30 Mobil1 (plus 1 pint ZDDP) oil pressure cold @ 2500 RPM = ~80 psi and at 180 degree temp @ 3000 RPM, oil pressure is 65-70 psi with a HIGH VOLUME...

    Oil pressure scare

I got a factory idiot oil light so I installed an aftermarket gauge cluster (Volts/Temp/Oil). Had a scare last year with an engine noise I thought could be deadly. Wound up being something simple. I watch my oil pressure more often these days as a result. I have no tach so my two most important...

Possible low oil pressure issue in 74 road runner 318…Can someone help tell me if this aftermarket gauge is electric or mechanical?

I don't think bleeding the line will change the pressure reading. Any oil in the line will give you a true pressure reading. It's like an pressure line that has no liquid in it but still gives you a pressure reading.

    RB Oil Pressure

I received enough good advice on troubleshooting my oil pressure problem searching old threads, I figure I may as well join. Regarding the oil pressure, it suddenly went to "0" on a 40k RB that has always maintained excellent OP. No Oil from the pressure sensor port. No knocking, but valve...
