The TRW pistons can usually have the domes milled off. So if th ebores and pistons are in good shape iwould do that. No sense buying fancy pistons unless you are going to stroke it. The question that has been asked. What is the intended use. What is the budget? Might be as simple as a valve job...

I differ in opinion, your main issue is the needle is erratic while running. Which would point to an ignition compatability problem. Many tachs point oddly when shut off, and zero out when turned on. Need more info about the production origins of the tach.

i would buy new "direct fit" cragars instead of the "uni-lug" style shown. if you look close the inner [closest to the wheel hub] holes of the wheels, the holes are starting to "wallow out" for whatever reason. and as an added bonus [in my opinion], the direct fit wheels use the modern factory...

I'm running pertronix igniter 2, the main issue is the needle pointing at 6500 with the key off!

Man, I'll do this Monday and see what happens. I don't see how a ground wire will stop the needle from being pulled by the speaker magnetic but definitely worth a shot! Sounds like we had the same exact issue and that added wire worked for you....I'll keep you posted!
