So I have a 68 charger with a crate 5.9 in it and a edelbrock 600 carb. Running an orange box and single ballast with electronic distributor. I've had this car running as recent as 3 weeks ago w no issues. Now today I go to start on body work and no start. Fuel had gravitated back to tank so I...
Hello, I have a 68 charger with a crate 5.9 and mild comp cam in it. I am running a 600cfm edelbrock carb. I recently got engine to start and hold idle after working out some ignition issues with your help. My question now is I have drops of water from exhaust even after engine is warmed up and...
Ok so upon swapping the coil I had and performing the test I now have spark!! I adjusted timing and it's pretty close now and will start quick and hold idle. Thank you all for the advice and replies I really appreciate it. The ignition really had me stressed for a while. Thanks again!
No they aren't solid core wires. Update: I swapped the dizzy to the electronic type and hooked the orange ecu box up w ballast resistor. With ignition in the run position I'm only getting 4-5 volts to the coil positive side. Shouldn't that be at least 8volts? All fuses once again are good and...
Ok the way I'm testing for spark to the dizzy cap is by unplugging the coil high output wire and holding it close to ground while cranking. Have also hooked it all up to the dizzy, removed spark plug wire and connected to an extra plug I had and grounded to engine. Both of these methods have...
Ok, so i tried the jumper wire from positive battery post to positive side of coil and still no spark. Checked the air gap and it's good at .010. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Is it true that if the distributor module is out the coil will not provide spark? I read somewhere that if...
9 volts on the positive terminal of the coil. When you say coming out going to the dizzy do you mean from the plug/high output? or from the negative terminal? Sorry i'm still a little green at testing the coil. I checked for the proper ohms with nothing hooked to it and it was good. Then i...
Hey guys, i really need some help here so it may be lengthy i'll try to be as brief yet detailed as i can if you need more info just let me know. I have a 68 charger in restoration process. The original 318 is toast so i dropped a crate 360 LA 5.9 in it. Brand new painless wiring harness...
Hello I am currently running an edelbrock 600 carb on my 400hp 5.9 crate engine. Is this too much or too little carb for a 400 horse 360. I can't seem to get the mixture right us my issue. I've added a pressure regulator and still can't get the sweet spot on mixture screws. Any help would be...
Well I swapped the ballast for a new one and no dice. However, upon checking schematics I only had the coil side ignition wire hooked up(ign2) and missed hooking up (ign1). It has spark and starts now but immediately starts with way high rpms. I backed off the idle screw and checked throttle...
Hoping someone can help I dropped a 5.9 crate into my 68 charger. Hooked it all up and I'm getting spark and it'll fire but die immediately. I'm running a points style ignition setup w ballast resistor. Had an electronic but couldn't get spark w it. Any suggestions would be appreciated on...
I bought a 360 5.9 casting(53020006-360) for my 68 charger. I'm using an a904 trans and need to know which flex plate is correct? Will the one from my 318 or 440 work? Thank you.
I'm just curious as to why there aren't many repro parts available for the 68-70 charger? This was/is one of the most popular mopar sever made so how is it that parts are so scarce? Seems every time I look for a part for my 68 I can't find it anywhere. Just frustrated at this point .
Hello, i have a 68 charger SE w a 318 that is bad. Can i swap a 360 into this car without changing rearends and K memebers? I know the 318 is internal balance and 360 is external. Just looking for some advice as to whether or not this will work. Thank you.
Ok so I spliced the wires and engine is running again. After a trip around the block though the voltage at the battery is already at 15.7volts so I still have an overcharging issue. Would the ballast help this?
Re:
Ok so I found the blue ign and brown crank wires at the bulkhead. Are you saying I need to splice the two together? One end of the ballast goes to coil but where does the other end connect to?Regulator is connected to ignition and grounded well as is control box.
