Yes, there are still some old school shops around to do radiator work. Yes Glen-Ray does not make their own cores, but Bob does spec the type of cores he has built for himself. Remember there is a difference between a $400 recore and a $1400 restoration of a radiator. The cheap recore means the...
It is not so much the distance there but the distance the fan is located in the shroud. The fan blades should be about half in and half out of the shroud for the correct setup.
Bill Meerholz Enterprises - NOS Mopar, Restored Original and Quality Used Mopar and Chrysler Parts
Try Bill, he restored some A/C lines for me awhile back.
the 69 and earlier cars do not have a low pressure cut out switch. The compressor does have it's own "pump" and I believe that is for oiling the crank, the top end (pistons & rods) will not be lubricated unless the system is charged. Mine was a completely rebuilt unit by an experienced shop and...
I know because I just blew up an RV2 with full oil and no A/C charge. Didn't think it would be a problem turning on the defrosters.... 1-mile later belts were blown off and compressor grenaded. total scrap. I was told by radiator shop yeah that will happen without the charge to help move the oil...
I can tell you for sure do not engage the clutch without the system being charged regardless of having oil in the compressor!! at least for 69 and earlier cars. Without the system being charged it will not lubricate the compressor. Ask me how I know...
Yes, I have parted many cars out and I have seen both styles nuts used. Depends on what factory built the car, but don't ask me which one did what. I haven't documented which one used what.
You won't build enough vacuum with a hand pump to test your system that way. you will need to have a small electric vacuum pump or some other constant source of vacuum.
Yes, the one with the mopar tag in your picture is a genuine Chrysler part. They have had these available for a long time. The one in the pic has a date of 02/99 on the tag.
If the 69 radiator is the correct one (2949053) the 68 shroud will not mount on it. In 69 the shroud changed to a plastic one and uses different mounting brackets.
Radiators do "wear out" over time, by that I mean the cores lose efficiency as the bonds between the tubes and fins break down and the radiator loses its ability to dissipate the heat. Sounds like your original may be ready for a new recore.
There is another piece of foam that you are missing in the pic that goes around the outlet opening also. Detroit Muscle has both of the required foam pcs available new.
I believe that the later built 69 A12 cars had a molded 90deg hose on the rear drain to prevent water from being drained on to the starter relay. I don't have a pic at this time but I will search for one to post.
Originally the radiators were painted using Naptha reducer, The dry sheen depended on if it was a humid or dry day that it was painted. Long story short.. There is no 100% accurate answer so paint it whatever you feel looks like the best sheen to you.
WTB.. A VERY nice to perfect taillight cover for inside the trunk. Cover must not have any pulled out screw holes or cracks / tears. I understand this is a tall order but just throwing it out to see what turns up so I can complete the resto of an original triple black RT. Please send me a pic or...
