I did a TKX swap on my '66 Satellite a couple of years ago. Everything seemed to go in fine, but I need a little more space to get my driveline angles just right, so I cut the crossmember and installed this set-up from Holley...
That's one of the reasons why I went to a manual trans (along with the desire to have overdrive and the fact that my 904 was hanging during 2-3 upshifts). I didn't really understand how sprag failures happen and how to avoid it, so this is some really useful information.
I made this from aluminum sheet using a hole punch. It’s not perfect, but neither are the original knobs in the car. I don’t know how well that will work for the bigger inserts, but it works fine for the little ones.
Good point. Caveat- I'm not trying to be argumentative, so I apologize if it comes across that way in print. I'm just annoyingly analytical sometimes.
If we are trying to achieve to efficiency, what does it mean in this context? How would we measure it? How would we know when we get it...
This is an interesting topic. I have seen the coil-over kits for B-bodies and I always wondered if there was any real advantage. I'm curious to see what people think.
Before my daughter was born (about 20 years ago), I was heavy into sportbikes. I rebuilt/revalved my forks and invested in a...
Weird...
It's always frustrating when something should work, but doesn't. Maybe your backfire knocked off a vacuum plug or hose somewhere? I had that happen once. I didn't realize it until I moved the car and found my vacuum plug sitting the driveway.
It sounds like it might be going lean at idle.
I would make sure that the accelerator pump arm is set correctly, then adjust the idle mixture screws. I think the accelerator pump is what pushes fuel to the squirter. If it's not working right, you will experience the issues described.
That's what I was thinking. It's a 70s car, so the look is white-letter tires on 15-inch wheels. I would not go "letters out" on my '66, because that's kinda' wrong for the era.
Then again, I have 17s on my '66. So what do I know about what's correct?
There is a plastic replacement console out there. I bought mine from Summit for about $300, but they don't seem to have it any more. It looks like they are still available from eBay retailers. All of the lights, covers, and trim fit just like the original.
Everything about the part seems...
I have Quick Time SFI-approved bellhousing on my '66 Satellite and it seems to have plenty of room.
I have a small-block 360 with a TKX. My TKX is right up against the trans crossmember and I cut the tunnel in on one small spot to give it a little clearance, but the bellhousing was never an...
How frustrating!
That reminds me of the time I went to my favorite national chain tire shop (yes, the one known for its road hazard warranty) to have tires installed on my new wheels. I told the sales dude that my driver's side lugs were left-hand thread, then I also told the tech before he...
When I bought my car back in 2020, it came with a recently rebuilt 360. The engine has a Comp XE268H installed and, once I got the carb and timing set right, it has run great. Though I must admit, I have a lifter that seems to collapse when I don't drive the car for a few months.
I installed an AutoMeter electronic speedo a few years ago. I had to use a sender, like the one pictured, to make it work with my car's original A904. Did you make sure to install the little square rod? If you left that out, you can do everything else right, and it still won't work.
BTW - I...
I have only blown-up one engine, but I did it well!
Back in 2004, I was riding my 2000 ZX6R at a track day and literally grenaded the motor with a "money shift" and spewed oil all the way down the front straight at Texas World Speedway. That was dumb.
When I prepped my bike for the track...
As a wise man once said: "Don't get it right, just get it running!"
My suggestion is to just get her running and have some fun with the car and decide what direction you want to go from there.
Up until recently, my car has been a rolling project (buy tools and parts -> do stuff -> drive car)...
