I will definitely be using it for my next project. I read the TDS for SPI and it gives so much good info. The only reason I used the eastwood is I had to do a phosphoric acid wash on all of my panels and at the time, the SPI TDS did not recommend using their epoxy over acid washed metal. The...
I have used tons of the eastwood epoxy, it lays down nice but takes forever to flash off. I want to try the SPI stuff on the next project. The eastwood also does not sand well, but has a long recoat window.
I use windex and microfiber towels. I have a towel that I spray with windex to wipe on and then wipe off with a clean towel. I change towels often and quickly blow dry the area to help the windex to evaporate off as fast as possible. If there are joints that it looks like the windex settles into...
Get a variable speed buffer (single action) and use a large 80 grit disc on it to get almost all the way through the paint. Then switch to a DA with 80 grit. Stay off the edges with the 80 grit
I restored this 68 GS with my Dad, it took us 6 years and was a LOT of work. Having that experience together is very important to me and I will cherish it forever.
I don't see how hammer and dolly work, especially hammer on dolly could possibly shrink an area around a butt weld. Sure bumping it around could help straighten it out but would likely cause a little bit of stretching instead.
I really like using the carbide burrs from Kodiak in my die grinder Carbide Burr Sets | Double Cut Carbide Burrs | Kodiak Cutting Tools. They cut the weld like butter and I have a lot of control with them. I'll get my welds real close to the sheet metal surface and then switch to a 2'' disc with...
Nice, the green cars are my favorite! I also like single stage because I think it looks more authentic. To me a car that has a base/clear job on it where they hammerd on the clear gets old to look at. They may cut and buff the texture and big problems out of it but you can still spot the...
I've been doing my first single stage job on my car as well. It is plum crazy purple. I would say be very aware of how tight you are overlapping your passes, I'd say 70 to 75% overlap has worked very well for me. I also turn the mixture down a bit for a smaller droplet and a little less...
Don't let you brother do that for you for free. That is insane. That is a few years of work in a normal body shop. You've got to pay him something to take that on. The body work on that is like 90% of the restoration.
Interesting post. It seems like a big contributor is how much higher the front end of the charger sits than the challenger. The front bumper of the challenger looks like it would have far less air traveling underneath the car, or air that is not hitting major engine and suspension components...
He is definitely talented and has great ambition but has sidetracked himself terribly and is picky about the weirdest stuff! It seems like he is his own worst enemy when it comes to actually completing his project. All I can say is KISS, keep it simple stupid. I can't stand watching that channel...
I agree with Eldubb. I have tried a needle scaler before and it sucked! I use a heat gun and scraper, and then finish the job with automotive goo gone. It will remove all the undercoating residue and film. Another benefit is when I'm done I don't have all that **** on my face like that guy did...
Really straight cars have filler. I do think it is better to coat the whole panel in filler and block it out than to have lots of layers of high build primer. It's no bondo buggy.
Nice, that practice will help a ton. I was spraying ash gold on my 68 Buick and it looks like a very similar color to the GY3. I love how it changes color with different lighting. Once I adjusted my spray pattern to have less material and finer droplets, and started gong to a 70-75% overlap and...
Have you done much car painting before? Keep in mind the difficulty with high metallics. Your latest spray out card looks like you have some mottling going on. Also keep in mind as you need to spray the whole exterior of the car at once with a high metallic to get it to look right. You have to...
