Acording to my book there were two types of retainers. One was used on the 1970 thru 1974 six cylinder. The other which is what you have was not used on the small block until 1976. hope this helps

Doing front suspension rebuild on the 1971 Charger SE 383 4 speed car. When I got to the strut, I had to grind off the front flange on the stut sleeve to pull it out.
