1971 Dodge Charger SE 440 Magnum Triple Black

About this Mopar:

Hello to you all,

Nice B bodies only site...

I bought this car from the original owner back in 2001 in good shape. I have made a few changes to the car as I removed the aluminum 14 inch slotted mags...ugh! Sorry, don't like the slots! Went with Crager S/S with BFG Radial T/As. The gas tank has been replaced. I removed the old offenhauser intake and finned valve covers that had been on the car since 1974 with an Edelbrock performer intake that I had powder coated, a set of chrome valve covers, Schumaker coated headers and a 3310 Holley carb.

I've just replaced the original 11 inch drum brakes with a set of A body disc brakes thanks to a lucky donor out in the local wrecker. Snagged the spindles and bought new rotors, calipers, dust shields, pads, etc... I just hope I won't have to add power assist as this thing had manual drum brakes originally. Although, someone was nice enough to replace the drum master cylinder with a disc brake MC!

I'll be replacing the Holley 3310 shortly with an Edelbrock Thunder series 800 AVS carb as soon as I save up enough points at my local Autozone!

The original owner special ordered the car as a stripped down SE with 383 mag. No power anything and manual everything! A real odd ball car, to say the least.

When he went to go pick it up they had made a few mistakes. First was a 440 mag instead of the 383 and the second one was that they had put black pin stripes on the car. Of course, I'm not complaining a bit about either one...

So, this is actually a quad black Charger!

Fabulous car !!! When I was in high school, you coudnt give away the 71 thru 74 Chargers. Now I cant afford them. When I was seacrhing for a car a few years ago, when I bought my Sattelite, I found one like this in a 383 4 speed. All I need to do is hit the lottery now..........

WOW !
This S/E is special for a few reasons , with 2 coming to my mind right off :

1. Los Angeles build . L.A. only built -- so I've heard -- 11 of the 52 "U" Code 1971 S/E Chargers ;

2. Its 21st May 1971 build date . For the L.A. plant , that's awful late , as the plant closed in July 1971 .

Of special note is the "N41" ( dual exhaust ) without the typical "N42" ( chrome tips )
which is typical for a California-destined car , and-or a Noise Reduction Package car .

Very nice Charger you've got there !

This is a real beauty.I hope to have pics. of my 73 up soon.Mine is not yet finished but is still alot of fun to drive.Once again beautiful ride.

Absolutely Beautiful Charger!!!! I have a 71 SE that I'm doing black as well expect, I'm doing red R/T badging.

wow.my fav.color is black and i had a 63 dart conv.going triple black but,sold it .i m picking up hopfully today or tommorow.a 67 coronet slant six.fac.stock3 on the tree.man id love to do the black on black for this but,its the dodge like,,faded yellow.orig.so ill have to leave it if its in good shape if not blk.on blk.ya...God Bleass you all.!! Bear R.-

Very nice, reminds me of my 73 SE Brougham. I'm puzzled though, the seats are not correct for the 71, more like a 73 or 74, everyone agree?

Black beauty!! Seats look correct. the grain on the insert changed in 72. I believe those are a Leather grain insert. I put the same style in my 1973 SE. Much better style. Nice looking and clean Charger SE.

Sweet Ride!!! Reminds me of my first car back in 1980, 71 Charger 500 w/383 Auto. STILL KICKING myself for ever getting rid of that car.

Were they the chrome "steel" slots or "aluminum"? Looking for a set of 4 (Chrome steel) in 15x7. Use to have a set on my 74 Charger 30 yrs ago, just want to dress it back to the 70's era for limited time.

~~~~Very sweet ride you have there!!~~~~
