looking in to a 0.60 over bore and stroke to my 68 440. any forseeable problems with that large of a bore? any input would be great.

You nd to have the block sonic tested for thickness before overboring that big. And if youve got enough meat its a go, except sometimes you get overheating problens and hot spots from the walls being to thin.

With a good cooling system in place no forseeable problems.

also my situation is the block i have now was bored 0.30 over except one cylinder that was scored, so they went 0.60 over on that one cylinder. what type of problems would i see if i left it like that?

You can use the factory HD cooling system for big block application will work fine in most cases.

If all the other cylinders are good at .030, why not sleeve the one that's over and bring it back to .030....that way the block can go .060 over on all of them if needed down the road.

Not a problem. Factory did it all the time with cylinders that didnt make spec, albeit not quite out to .060 over.

Thanks guys those were the best questions and answers I read here. You see I have the same kind 68 440 4bbl Magnum engine and I was thinking to do the same as 72satteldog. Except I was only boring out to .030 and decking the block and running some flat pistons. Scary for me to go 60 over and risk destroying my block. Thanks for those answers, something to know.

I Had A 440 6-Pack Built Two Years Ago That Used A Date Coded 1970 Block Bored Out To .060 To Clean Up The Cylinders. No Problems!

Remember,once you bore it to .060,if you have a problem later you're done unless you sleeve.

Thanks guys for all those good questions and answers, saved me the trouble and I pretty much made a decision on how I would like my 440 built when I come around to it. My priority is the 70 RR 383 first then the 440 motor for the 69 RR parts car. Still got to find me a tranny and the rearend on that one is 8 3/4 323 open and my 70 is 383/ 727/ 8 3/4 323 sure grip.

You now what! I think I'll have that 68 440 Magnum of mine bored out to .060 over and full stroke it with modern day fuel injection and twin intercooled Turbos on each side of course.

they recommend not going over .30 in the later waterblocks as the water holes are much larger and the nickel content in the block is less but in the earlier blocks they say anything upto .80 is okay but going over .30 they recommend sonic testing etc. like blackblazer said

I had a 500 CI B1 built & had 6 blocks sonic tested before lucky 7 was the one that went .055 over with custom JE pistons.
The last of the 440 blocks 71 or 2 & newer would not go .055 due to core shift
