10 inch Front Drum Brakes

I ran 11" on a 10.60 @ 126 roadrunner back in the early 80's and it stopped fine on a short shut down. You have more stopping power with 11's of course but you also have a bit more surface feet speed per minute with the larger diameter drum. Another thing to think about is if you're running small tires on the front at the strip....you don't need a lot of brake on the front because you will just slide them across the stripe if you're bracket racing and are pushing it. Heck, it might be a good thing to have some fade on the front to keep that from happening :D

LOL! Most. Most history buffs will say 10.50 but I have read that we went 10.02. He didn't even have seat belts in the car!

My 10.52 127.8 '65 Coronet used 10" front & 10" rear drums. Worked OK on some fairly short tracks. But of course the big 11" x 3.5" will stop much better. Only a few (5+/-) heavier.

At 125 10 inch brakes will work well one time at 150 you may stay out of the sand anything above 150 you will deffinatlly be in the sand with no brake left. If driven on the street one time brakes are no fun even if they work great that one time before fade. If you have it to loose diet the ten pounds away and save the brakes.

I agree, at 148 MPH I sure liked my Lamb 4 wheel discs. No concerns there.

I should have mentioned with my 10" brakes on my '65 Coronet, I used really cheap, soft shoes & regularly scuffed them up with boulder paper (30 grit or so). The soft shoes did stop well. But doing "hot laps" would produce some fade & more stopping distance.
