12v acc on, 10v ign on/run.... dies a slow death

1977 b300 sportsman royale 440 no overdrive. Electrical issues. Starts but must idle for a minute of two before able to put in drive without stalling. Voltmeter stays around 10.5 but will creep to 12v if on the gas pretty decent. Can't drive at night because lights are a drain on the batter.
 
Start with the obvious...bring the alternator to an auto parts store that tests them and then go from there.
 
Battery is suspect too, maybe voltage regulator. Sounds like the alt is putting out something, maybe not enough.

Yup, they test batteries too. My point was that usually a request for help is made after a few of the basic troubleshooting steps have been taken.
 
Alternator putting out 14.7, battery at 13.1 out of van. New voltage regulator, two month old ecu. When running at idle, 10.5-11.5, while driving somewhere around 11.8- 12.0 maybe 11.99. While driving I have to down shift from D to 2 to keep from bucking and stalling when coming to a stop. Not sure how or if related, but of the two fuel tanks, my passenger side aux Tank is full up the fill spout to the gas cap and does not seem to be having any noticeable decrease when switched to that tank. Just a thought. Thank you for your time and replies:) I am new to the Mopar world and a fairly new learning mechanic.

It sounds the alternator may be good. Run a 'full field' test to verify. Disconnect the green field wire from the alternator and run a jumper to it. Start the van and then ground the jumper momentarily and see what the voltage output is. It should jump rather high (16 volts or more). If it doesn't then the alternator is no good. If it does jump up then it points towards the voltage regulator (VR) being the culprit. Make sure the VR case is well grounded too.
