So I pulled the magnum 500's off the fron and found 2 different brake drums on my Coronet 440. Anyone have any idea whats going on here?
I put the 15" ralleys back on and they don't rub. What is the correct drum? The drum with the spring around the outside is the passenger side.. The other is drivers.

Help... Please..

This is a 69 Coronet 440... So the drum without the spring is older? These should just bang off right?I shouldnt have to pull Cotter pins and bearings,, right?

Per my 68 factory service manual, I don't know about 69 but probably same. The front drum is removed by pulling the assembly off the spindle. Remove cap, cotter pin, spindle nut, and pull off. Looks like you got mis-matched drums, I don't think it will hurt anything if they are in good shape. If you need a drum or two let me know, I got 2 sets I pulled off my 67 and 68 when I changed to disc brakes.

FRONT DRUM REMOVAL..Per 1969 Plymouth Factory Service Manual..To aid in Drum Brake Removal..Loosen brake star adjusting wheel..#1. Remove rear plug from brake adjusting access hole ..#2.Insert thin screw driver into brake adjusting hole and push adjusting lever away from star adjusting wheel...<Care should be taken not to bend adjusting lever>..#3.Insert tool # C 3784 into brake adjusting hole and engage notches on brake adjusting star wheel,.. Release brake adjustment by prying down with adjustment tool...
# 4. Remove wheel cover, grease cap, cotter pin, lock, adjusting nut, outer wheel bearing, and remove wheel and drum assemblly from spindle to expose brake linings,..#5 ..inspect brake lining for wear, shoe alignment or contamination from grease or brake fluid...

Hope this helps..Rick 70RR

I believe what I need is a drum without the spring.. As the one with the spring is the one that rubs.. Are these 10 or 11" drums? I'm not sure.. But yeas I could use on of your old drums to prevent having to replace both with new. I'm off Friday or Sat morning.. or actually could shoot down during lunch any day.

the front drums on my 69 road runner just pull off after adjusting brake tension off .no need to remove the bearings.I was suprised to find this since on my old dart the drum had the bearings included with the drum,my road runner has 11"x3" brakes.

This is a Dodge... I think these are held on at the hub with the large nut and cotter pin. The rears are just placed on... Trying again tonight.

So here's a few interesting finds..
1) I had old drums from my 69 Superbee.. Come to find out they were to big. 12" OD
2) I have a 69 Coronet 440 Parts car in the driveway.. I was going to go pull the drum off on the passenger side and low and behold, it was set up the same as in the pictures. Spring on the passenger side, solid on the drivers.
So I asked myself..."Self - what the heck was rubbing" ?
3) So upon further inspection I saw the weights which were mount on the outside lip of the back of the rims, all chewed up. They were supposed to use peel and stick weights..... Problem solved..

Oh.... and I had to pul the cotter pin, nut cap, nut and bearing to get it off.
