16” wheels on b body?

Has any used or seen if a 16” wheel will fit a ‘66 Satellite? Only conceptual. Thought I’d ask here first. I have to change out the factory 14s anyway and just contemplating the look.

Or go with a 17" wheel. Lots of tire choices in 17 too. Just don't go any bigger!!!

@Bleep Bleep When I bought my 97 2500, it came with 16's and even back then, tire selection was minimal so started hunting for 17's and found that Hummer H2 wheels had the same bolt pattern. Just had to machine the center hole to fit and when I found a set of chrome ones on Ebay and local, I jumped on them. Even the wife's 2022 Colorado has 17's on it.

16's would be my last choice... Very little support in the tire department... There's probably twenty times as many options in the 15" range... And 17's are plentiful...

Like the girls who try to dress in period costume for car shows like Viva Las Vegas. In my opinion, modern day stripper shoes don't like right with a vintage outfit. The tire/wheel combination needs at least a passing resemblance to the era in which the car was built.

You know I'm a purist, and lived through the era. It's a total package. I lose interest immediately if the shoes don't match the outfit. My wife wasn't permitted to ride in my 1960 300F unless she wore vintage roach killer heels that matched her pencil skirt. When I talked about getting another F years later, she said forget it, she was done wearing those shoes a decade ago.

I have 16's on a 72 Charger since 2003. Performance tire selection has declined significantly since then. If you really want something bigger than 14" or 15" you should consider a jump to 17".

Not sure if I would like 17's if they weren't period correct for say a 66 Belvedere. Back then, slots were kinda popular but not many had aftermarket wheels around here during the mid 60's. I had baby moons on mine in early 69 and still don't remember many having aftermarket by then even but there were more of them than in 66. Seems like the early 70's is when things changed though.

YearOne 17' Aluminum Rallye or Magnum. Period look with several backspacing options. Lots of tire options. Polished lip so no trim rings needed or to loose.

17" are more expensive, than 15" or even 16"
16" are very limited in tires selections/options
&

IMO there's almost nothing worse than a rubber band tire
on an older muscle car, looks like

Yes it can be done, but do your due diligence 1st,
see the sizes 1st see diameter in inches, are far different than a 15" & more $$
vastly different ranges, especially in wider tires, even trucks
are 15%-20%+ more in a 17"
I know I've been shopping them for my Dakota 4x4,
thinking of doing new wheels too
probably going to stay with the 15", about $350 less just for tires, 33"x10.5"
15" wheels I like, I can get nice shinny alum. for $150 each 15x8",
the 17"x8's are like $225 each, exact same style/widths,
hard to get the right backspacing in the 17"s too
they tend to be more backspacing, will rub on the inside

I've got a pair of sixteens on my 62..... cause I found new 16" slicks cheap.
But I agree with ALL the above that say either 15s or 17s. It's All about tire selection. I had to special order the 16s for my Z28 camaro, but only cause I wasn't ready to go to 17s or 18s at the moment.
I'm sure not gonna buy any more 16s, if I can help it.
(Almost forgot: took the sixteens off my diesel pickup, have run a couple sets of 17" Coopers since).

For reference , you can't tell just looking that my slicks are on 16s, look just like 15s.
But if you do go to 17s, make sure you get enough sidewall height so they look right. (Suv 17s have plenty of height, don't look like rubber band tires)

Nice thing about 17" wheels
you can fit many aftermarket disc brake kits w/far more room
& on a bigger wheel well like the B-bodies have in 68-70 anyway
17 front & 18's rear is the about the biggest I'd do, fits nicely
if you get the right tire/wheel combo, it 'still looks good'
& not too HotWheel-ish or too cartoonish
still need to do your due diligence in sizes & differences in brands 'vary vastly'
especially in sidewalls vs width

I can vouch for that. I have 17" wheels with 28" tall tires on "the roach" (235-60-R17) & would have liked to get some wider tires for the rear, but the available wider tires would have meant a sacrificing tire height and I didn't want the rubber band look.
