18 of the ugliest cars of the 70s and Mopars are NOT on the list

I always admired the Volvo P1800. Ended in model year 1973. They even made a station wagon model.

The nicest looking Volvo I've ever seen, but it was styled by an Italian? One of my neighbors back in the day had one. A nice one sells for too much nowadays...like more than $50k.

Fun fact: The Pacer is a hideous turd.

A friend had his T-1000 for many years until it rusted away. A “here to there” vehicle. No thrills and many small cars around you driving in that era. Many of those models looked alike. Now most vehicles are huge and probably a response to government mandates.

I liked this odd ball Chevette seen at a local track. Interesting engineering. I asked the driver if it was hard to handle on the 1/8 mile track. He said the car went straight as an arrow. The exhaust dump was creative.

The narration is damned funny too.

That was one hilarious video to listen to and the 3-wheel vehicle looks like a death trap along with some of the others.

A friend had a Saab Sonnet, he was so proud of it. It was like a go kart on the street.

Cool collection, but some I really liked, the Gremlin had a distinct style.

at 6:25....With a wheel chock shaped body that must have cost tens of dollars to design.
tens of dollars....

I still don't really like the Gremlin, even though people have done some cool things with them. They can be made to look aggressive in a way, but there is just no hiding the back of the car, even if giant fat white letter rubber on mags is used to draw the eye away.

I think the Pacer aged well. Not so much because the design was good, but because compared to most things that are around now, it has style and looks unique. I ma pretty biased though as the onyl few I have seen in real life had snazzy new paint jobs, and much, much larger and nicer wheel/tires on them. The car from the factory was missing a lot.
Of course, I like the mega-glass late 50's/early 60's wagons too. Steel, chrome, glass. Seems like new "cars" only have 1 of the three anymore.

I've always thought. "What the hell is Pontiac thinking?" I thought the '67 Firebird looked decent. Center pillar out a little farther for my taste. But not bad. But by the 70s? Nearly everything they made needed Rhinoplasty?

I was in college in the late 70's We all had aging undependable 60's cars that would barely get us home for Christmas break. One of my roommates' dad was a big corporate sales manager for GM. I mean a BIG DOG. So Rick had a new 4-door Chevette. We didn't care how ugly it was. It would take us from KU in Lawrence, Ks. to Fort Lauderdale, FL. in air-conditioned comfort with no problems. We all loved that thing.

IIRC 70 was the final facelift for that generation riv, before they went to the boat tail design which IMO was very nice looking.
The first incarnation, 1966 was much cleaner.

However, the 63-65 was WAY better looking.
