I'm having my 318A rebuilt and am looking ahead to getting a higher stall converter to accommodate the higher power output. Problem is, input shaft is 19 spline and I have only found one vendor, Billet Converters, that has converters for early 727s. I could have mine rebuilt to the stall I need but who is recommended and what is an approximate cost?

The car is a 1962 Belvedere, 318 Poly going to be bored for new pistons, 9.5:1, street port, valve job, 264/.480" ([email protected]"), 4bbl intake, 600 Edelbrock, TTI headers and 2 1/2" dual exhaust out the back, and 3.23 rear w/ Eaton TT.

Car is going to be street driven, not raced.

Has anyone dealt with Billet Converters?
Any other vendors you would recommend?
Thanks!

Why not change the front pump to a 68-70 style and tailshaft to a 65 style? (slip yoke) That way you'll be able to have some choices in the stall and also get rid of the flange drive shaft! It will still be a cable shift!

Although 19 spline converters are obtainable, it's an easy swap to put the 24 spline input shaft into your transmission and avail yourself of the larger selection of newer TCs.

I agree that the swap is easy but finding the parts has not been easy. A full sb 727 is easy to find for parts but none around me and shipping does not make it cost effective. If I have a tq built I will still be money ahead which is why I am sticking with 19 spline. Unless I happen across a close, cheap donor tranny.

Doesn't sound like you are looking for a race converter. .. If just something with a little bit more stall than a stock converter try Pat Blais. He is in Washington if it remember correctly. .. He has factory high stall units that are a little looser than others. .. on ebay in think the name is torqueflight patty... IIRC.
