1962 plymouth trunk carpet/mat?

Was just curious, did all 62-65s come with the rubber mat in the trunk or does someone make carpet? For some reason i would prefer carpet.. not a killer though to go with a mat. My car came with a 1" thick carpet padding (can't think of the damn word.. gray foam type pad) that is for carpet.. i don't think that would be under a mat...

If carpet is possible are all 62-65s trunks the same or is it another 62 weird thing

finally drove my car and now am itching to get it actually done and daily drivable since it's almost winter

The 62 model year is unique to itself. The 63 to 65 Plymouth's are the same for the trunk mats. Carpet was never offered. The correct material is a heavy vinyl/rubber. For the 62 to 65 B-bodies, the mats are vacuum formed to fit the trunk pans. The only manufacturer that makes the correct vacuum form mat is Auto Custom Carpets. For the 62 model year, they offer it in a gray herringbone. You can specify either a tan, gray or blue plaid, but those colors would not be correct for the 62 model year on what we have found. The light weight vinyl mats are not correct either and are not vacuum formed as well.

@icetech , you can put carpet into the trunk area if that is what you would like to use. I am just saying that the original material was the heavy vinyl/rubber material. Nobody offers a die cut carpet mat. I think that the earliest B-body to offer a carpet style trunk mat was 1973.

No matter what you should decide to use, carpet, vinyl or rubber, my observation is that they will all trap moisture between the floor pan and the mat, especially in the winter months. This condensation or sweat is what rotted many of these trunk pans out. I personally roll the mats up and remove from the cars during the winter months

ahh thats a good idea... yeah i don't wanna just try to make carpet fit that isn't molded/correct.. prolly get a pad.. not a major thing in the end

Happy Belated Birthday! (63 yrs old!)

Well I did buy her a new Group 27 battery and installed it yesterday. Waiting on the red caps and Decal. I had to steal the Group 34 to use in the 03 Dakota. This battery is much better!

Man that thing looks good.. i can't wait to finish rubbing out mine.. the 62 year old paint actually came back really good.. I put the trunk filler panels in yesterday and need to get the folded lines out of the liner next.. then figure how to secure my emergency parts/tool box. I'm putting off doing actual work on it right now

Well trust me she's a 50 footer. She has more scars than a Blue Tick hound running through a briar patch!

How about that! A good friend of mine donated the gear box and pump to a worthy cause. I just need to save up for the rebuild kits, double pully and the shorter power steering shaft.
