Hello everyone, I have a question about my 1962 Plymouth Belvedere. I have a serious leak at the seal where the kickdown rod attaches to the transmission.

I need to know if I can replace this seal without the use of special tools. I was told by a professional transmission mechanic that there is a special tool specifically for this job. He is a good friend that I trust. However, is too busy to help me. I am an experienced mechanic needing advice. I just don't want to dive into something that will leave the car immobile. I have reasonable room between it and the floor pan.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Marvin

remove the KD lever, loosen with a 7/16" socket, pop off with a screwdriver, then there should be a thick washer. now that 's out of the way, a small screwdriver or a sharp pick will get the seal out. lube the new seal up and work it in with your finger and the small screwdriver until it looks even with the top of the tranny case and doesn't look as though it is twisted and reassemble. not that big of a deal, good luck

Thank you emore, Now I just need to find a place to buy the seal. No parts houses around here carry such.

Hello Doug, I would really appreciate it.
It is "533 Lee Rd 57 lot 137 Auburn, Alabama 36832".

I'm not sure how long it would take to get here. I imagine something that small could travel by normal mail. Lets hope I don't screw it up. That particular seal is hard to find.

I'll dig one out today

Seals are still available from Chrysler. Also when installing the seal it needs to be with the other side up from your picture.

Thank ya'll very much. I'm glad some people are still interested in the old vintage cars.

Ok. I'm glad you shared this information 1948 Santa. Hopefully two sharp picks and care not to scar the aluminum, it will come out.

Hey dvw, I got the seal today. Thank you again. Hopefully one day I'll have the chance to return the favor.

Glad I could help.
Doug
