As far as closed vs open chamber heads go, the 1967 hi po 440 came with a larger ex valve, improved port layout, compared to previous years, and closed chamber design. Casting # 2780915. Factory said 73 cc chamber volume, but in reality they more like 78. Then starting in 1968, hi po 383/440 engines used the 906 head. Same port layout, but open chamber design. For lower compression. Actual volume of chamber is about 84 to 88 cc. You should try to look at the different heads to get an idea of the chamber shape. The 915s are like a D shape, while the 906 and the 452s are more like an O shape. Another fairly good one is the 516 head, used on the 383 commando in1965 and 66. These are closed chamber for good compression, but not as good on port shape. Although that 383 was rated 330 Horse Power. And had 1.6 diam ex valves. The later 383 magnum was only rated 335 H P, just 5 more.
