I had a 9/65 cast block once. Production for the next model year started in August so I think the earilest blocks would be cast in mid July..

thank you! Would that block be the same as one made in say 1969?

I believe the 440 first appeared in 1966 and the first batch of blocks was cast in 12/65???
Are you sure it says 64??

Yes you are correct. Brain fart, my block was 9-65 not 64. Production still started in Aug.
OP or you sure its a 440 and not a 413?

i think your right it says 12 20 65 i cant remmber now it is stamped 440 thats for sure i'll get more info i was to excited 12 30 is my brthday lol ment to be!

The motor in my plymouth has a 123065 date coded block (Cast date December 30, 1965) The casting number on both sides is 2536430-3. Interesting about the blocks being produced as early as August of 1965 as I have been under the impression that December 1965 was the first run of blocks for the 440ci motors.

Ya Sept 65 casting is the earliest that I've had. If the 440 was available for the begining of the 66 model year then they would of had castings ready before the start of production in Aug, right?

Anyone have any reference to how early the 440 blocks were cast in 65'? I'm curious now. Obviously my old paradigm has been shattered if you guys had blocks from as early as September. I am also of the understanding that the motors were only used in the big C bodies in 66' and they didn't appear in B bodies until 67'?

That could be. I'm looking in my 66 and 67 Plymouth FSM. 66 does not show a 440. Shows 383 for B and C bodies and the 426W option for the S-Fury. 67 shows 440 option for both B and C. I don't have any Dodge or Chrysler FSM for 66-7. I do have a Mopar 66 parts book and it shows the 440. Not finding anything about dates though.

thats odd i've seen & know where a 65 440b is for sale cast 6-22-65 build 10-14

Pick-ups & commercial vehicles had the RB-440 in 1966 also, I had a 1966 W-200 Power Wagon 4x4, w/a 440ci 4bbl, truck 4 speed, Dana 60's front & rear, I don't know the production date, I didn't really care about that stuff back then....

well thanks for that info but cast date of 6-65 is still before august the last time i checked??

Yes it is andf if they started assy in August then castings would have to be done before August. June is pretty early though.

Casting

Here is some casting and production info.

Engine casting vs. build dates:

The standard is typically around 30-90 days. The more common the engine (i.e., 318 or 383) the closer the casting date will be to the final assembly date of the engine However, 440 +6 are as high as 90-120 days and Hemi’s have been as high as 1 year.

It has been discovered that different production years had the build date of the engine closer to the scheduled production date of the vehicle. The closest dates observed was early 1968 production followed by 1970 and then 1971.
