1964 Fender tag

I just bought a 64 Polara with a correct year 426/365 engine
in it. Is there any way to tell if it is a original 426S car from
the fender tag. It does not have a front sway bar but it was
a bolt on that year and could have been remove but I want to
verify that it is a 426 car that the seller insisted it was originally.

Yes the fender tag tells the story on what engine and trans it was built with. I'm not up on early b body's to tell you how to read it. Posting a photo would help.

Yes there is an indicator on the tag. I was looking at a 65, hoping for a 426, (had a 440/4sp in it) but it was a 383. Sorry, I dont remember the code off the top of my head, ill see if I can find my old thread with the info.

AB=80 for a wedge or AB=82 for a Hemi

Zero may not be stamped under the B. My '64 is only stamped A=5 vs 50, 361 engine originally.

What i found is 014 indicates a 426 street wedge, in 63/64. Imo, the info is suspect. Unless of course, you find a 014 code.

Interesting, and makes sense. By 67 a 440 magnum was 83. But the Hemi turned into a 73

Ya, my 66 HP2 is coded 73. Codes were the same 62 to 65 and then changed again just to keep someone employed.. LOL

Well not necessarily.. 41 was always 318, 62 383 4, and all of the race stuff deleted, ( the 64, race Hemi=82) left room for the street Hemi at 73.
