Hi guys

I have a 1964 Polara with original equipment. Including rearend.
One of the first things i want to do is upgrade there first.
I see Moser has housings and axles. But does anyone have suggestions
that i can go to?
Once that is done i will be moving forward with the car.
I have replaced all front end pieces with new already. Plus replaced old rear leafs with Super Stock springs. But now starts the drive train.

Welcome to the board and of course we need to see pics.

Well, I am in the same boat, wanting to rebuild my rear, so you have to do a little homework, I have a '62 tapered axle rear with a 741 case, so I am wanting to get a post '65 unit, I have already bought a 489 Nodular Iron Case, and a 30 spline spool, looking to get the green bearings, and a 4.10 or 4.56 ring and pinion set, so some of the things I ran into is getting axles, becaue you have to measure them, and make sure the splines are the same for your pumpkin, are you wanting to rebuild the carrier in it or just go with a spool or what? The Moser axles will more than likely have 30 or 35 splines, although you may likely get them with the 23 spline (?) stock units. I am not sure of the Moser carrier, the one I got was made by Yukon, so I guess first is how much you want to spend on it and how "built" do you want it. I am planning to put 550 horsepower to the wheels so I want to have a strong unit...

Yeah i understand. I'm in the same boat. The Moser housing and axles with bearings just seem to be the best way to go. Its just pricing for even used Mopar parts are almost as high as going new or upgraded parts. I enjoy staying relatively stock appearance but with new tech. parts. I just want to make sure i am not missing any options i may be over looking.

I used a housing from a 68 Roadrunner in my 64 Belvedere.Bolts right in with no mods whatsoever.

Do it right !

I junked everything and went with a Strange Engineering S60 ( Dana 60). Plenty of mods and work but that car will be able to take any engine I want to drop into it. 4-Link is from Chris Alston chassis. The S cover is Strange's special order cover and had to paint the " S " yellow. Never have to look back and say that I shoulda or coulda or woulda. Do it right the first time.

I'l presume that this is going to be a mostly-street car? I've got a 65-up B-Body style in my '64(like Wannadrag said;a '68 RR unit will fit) and it was a bolt-in deal. Choose your gear ratio, get a Sure-Grip,get the proper lube and roll! Oh yeah;you can put 11" rear brakes on these as well. Nice compliment if you've got disc fronts.

Yup I have 11" drums on the '68 GTX rear that's under my '64 now. Nice to have those bigger brakes. Still have the 10" drums up front, though.

Here is my ride. thanks for the info guys.

What are your plans for the car ? Do you plan to race it any at all ?? I only ask because I can tell you what I did. My 63 Sport Fury has a rear from a 65 Ply in it so I have no tapered axles to fool with. It's an 8-3/4 with a Detroit Locker center section. It has been holding up fine on my mid 11 (11.49 best) street/strip car. I race my 63 about 2 or 3 times a year and drive it alot on the street I even drive it to the track. So I would say if you dont plan on running faster then 11's the 8-3/4 may work fine. But if you plan to race alot and want to go faster then 11's I would go right to the Dana. Thats what I may do next year as I am building a 493 for my 63 now that should put it in the 10's and I will start to worry about my 8-3/4 then. Ron

Missed a detail

Sorry, didn't see the part about the super stock springs, so I think with those you have to stick with the 8 3/4? Not sure but I think because of the spring seats.. And wanting to stay stock appearance, the Dana, needing the four link and all that isn't exactaly stock, so what is the plan for the carrier? posi, limited slip, spool? What carrier is in it? 741? 742? 489? You want the 489 cause it has the largest pinion diameter. The 41 is the smallest. So like I said there is alot of stuff you have to figure out, unless you just wanna drop $3500+ on an already built unit...
