1965 Coronet Hardtop - How to Install Roof Rail Molding With Clips

How do I reinstall the roof rail (drip rail) molding (trim) that's above the door?
1) I believe I install the clips into the molding them push onto the rail? If so, what's the trick to snapping them on?

2) I've seen post where people say there are 3 clips per side. I know my trim was original and I only have 2 clips per side. What's the story on this?

3) I was missing one clip and bought a reproduction one. Will it work? It's completely different from my original. ( the green one is original).

Do Not screw them to the roof ! If i remember I had to shim them away from the trim piece to make them clip to the rail. Original only had 2 clips like your green ones. I looked for new ones and Nobody had them. 64 and 65 used them. The other style that you bought were for the 63 cars. good luck.

My 65 Coronet Hardtop had two per side, one on each side broke taking the molding off for paint. I put the molding back on the car the only one clip to the rear hoping it holds.

2 per side usually! Restoration Specialties has the correct clips! They aren't cheap though. around $10.00 each!

May have to crimp the old one's some. They are sprung. Bought new for my runner and had to crimp them a little to get a tight fit. It is a fight to the end for sure with all these old part's.

Moparsteve636, The brown clip is the reproduction clip everyone sells these days. Yes I paid $10 for that one, plus shipping.

I quit counting how much every thing cost once I got over 20 grand spent in part's. It was the choice to finish the car or go bust. LOL.

No, I finally gave up. I installed the molding yesterday. I played around with the two repro clips, but never could get them to hold the molding tight. THEY ARE JUNK!!!!
So on one side I have two old clips that work great. On the other side I have one old good clip and one old clip that has its tang bent off. Its a little loose, but the way the molding connects for and aft of it
will never come fly off.
In the end if I find some originals I'll fix this loose side, otherwise I'll add some seam sealer or RTV behind it so its not loose.

check with RT fasteners they have a lot of old stock but pricey. Maybe Stephen's in Alabama. They have an all mopar salvage yard. Got a lot of odd part's from them on the runner. Wish you luck.
