I have a 1965 coronet with a 383 (factory 318) and the engine came out a 1970 challenger. it was a 2 bbl engine, and id like to use the factory manifolds.
Is there any fitment issues i should know about, and its a auto as well

Where is the exhaust flange of the manifolds you want to use? If it's at the rear, it shouldn't be a problem.
Be aware, 62-65 b-bodies mount the engine farther forward than 66-up do. Different k-member. Center dump manifolds might be a problem.
Obviously, you'll need custom pipes made from manifolds back.

Yeah, they’re at the back of the manifold. I can’t justify paying top dollar for max wedges manifolds

I would get the Hp style over log, they will fit fine.

The hp manifolds are clearly better than the logs.
The question is: how much better? 10 hp? 20? Worth the $500 the hp manifolds cost, over the ones he has?
(New repops are $850).

The HP manifolds will fit fine, but you will need custom fabricated head pipes. If you try to use original '67-'70 head pipes, to match manifolds, the engine sits far enough in early B-bodies, that they will interfere with the tierod. Ask me how I know!
There might be a slight loss of power using the original log-type manifolds, but, seat-of-the-pants, I doubt that you would feel it. When I redid my '64 Polara recently, I changed out my HP manifolds for the log style, for a more original look.

I knew I had seen a test of the log manifolds versus the HP manifolds. This is a quote from Jim Laroy (IQ52) on A bodies from some dyno testing he did a number of years ago.

"I did a test on a stock low compression 440 making 272 horsepower with the factory log manifolds and switched to hp manifolds and gained 4 horsepower all the way up to 276HP."

I decided to keep the log manifolds on my car and just improve the exhaust system behind them.

Certainly would be cool to see that test on a 400hp mill

so i can use the 1970 challenger manifolds, but i cant use the factory style headpipes? which thats no problem because its going to the exhaust shop when its done

I don't t know much about E- bodies, so can't comment on that. I know that when using matching year B-body pipes, they drop straight down from the manifolds and hit the tierod. If the head pipes angle back, they would be OK.
