Gentleman I’m looking at purchasing a fairly clean 1965 Satellite. It’s got 64,000 original miles and the body is spotless, original paint. The interior not so much needs seat covers, carpet and a package tray. The car sat in the sun and it baked the interior soft parts. I like the car and think I can get it for around 5k-6 k my only issue is it has a 273 auto, I’m assuming is a 904. I know it’s a shame to mess with a true survivor car but the 273 just doesn’t have the grunt I’m looking for.
If I wanted to swap the car over to a 383/440 with auto trans, do I have to get a 1965 727 for the cable shift? Is 5k a good price for a clean Satellite?

$5k sounds reasonable to me and if you like the car then go for it. The interior is always easier and way cheaper to fix than the metalwork. I'm no expert on the transmissions but I'd say you'd need a 727 as I don't think any big blocks were fitted with the 904.

Picture's are the best way too gauge, but $5K doesn't sound like a bad deal to me ! regarding the trans, I put a 1970 None cable shift in my 65 Satellite.

If it's as clean as you described, $5K seems very reasonable. Pics would be nice. Regarding a big block swap...If you want to keep the factory shifter, you will need a big block cable shift trans for a '65. '65 was a one year only deal too - cable shift with slip yoke driveshaft.

Is it in your garage yet ?

Looks like a great starting point to me.

Is it 100% all original paint and does it run & drive as-is ? How is the cowl area for rust ?

Yes all original paint, some surface rust in the trunk and on the very bottoms of the rear quarters, Cowl looks clean
Guy says it runs and drives like a car with 64,000 miles

I can't imagine finding a cleaner B-Body 2 door that you can drive and fix things as you go for that kind of money...plus '65s are the best looking B-Bodies :)

I agree about 65’s....wish it was a post car lol

Forgot to add it has all the paperwork including the broadcast sheet, I have no idea what any of that means lol

Looks like a Great Car to get in and Drive It, AS IT IS. You can get the feel of it, and decide where you would want to go with it, restoration wise. Understand that if you decide to "fully restore" it, and change the driveline, you will be entering the "$$ Pit" Zone. Don't ignore the 273 for now, my 1st car back in the 70's was a '65 Coronet 500, 273 floor shift, and was one of the BEST cars I've owned...

If you don’t buy it I will!! Today! Just tell me where it is.

Well I decided to get it, I can anyone interpret the build sheet? Only thing I can figure out is it’s a Satellite with medium turquoise paint and a two tone turquoise interior

It's worth $5K just in parts alone. Good score.Well worth every penny. I'm sure you will have no problem going big block and finding a 65 727. OR you can do what I have done and convert it to the 66-up linkage. If you are good you can even use the 65 floor shift handle. I have column shift in my 65 and used parts from a 67 and the 65 column hooked to a 73 727 trans.
