It should work if you have the correct 64 cable.
I'm going the opposite way.

thank you ,i think i will swap my 64 body valve to my 65 trans and i will be ok ,what do you thinkI don't have pics but the difference is the ends of the cables where they connect to the rooster comb. They look similiar but one is a tad longer. I'm sure if you google PB cable ends pics will pop up and you'll see what I mean. I think the website 62-65 mopars??? Talks about the trans cables in detail.
With that said, I run a 65 console shift 727 in my 64 727 PB trans. I am not sure about 904 cable ends. Do you have the 65 cables? .if you do look at the trans end of the cables closely. I've made sure the cable in my situation is securely fastened to the 65 rooster comb, some people go as far as to swap rooster combs in the 727 trans so they match the cable. I did spend quite a bit of time setting it up. My buddy kept on pushing and holding the neutral button to make sure the comb touched the ns switch. I'd have him go through gears several times and sure enough I'd lose adjustment, so patience is a virtue here. Also make sure your kickdown rod properly pushes the valve in on the valve body at maximum throttle. This also required some patience with pushing gas and taking rod off to tweek it ever so slightly to get the valve body plunger to completely depress. You don't want to smoke a trans due to misadjusted kickdown.
thank you ,i think i will swap my 64 body valve to my 65 trans and i will be ok ,what do you think
If I recollect, the only difference was the length of the tail shaft needing a drive shaft length change..
I'm using 64 727, 63 drive shaft on my 65 coronet, Should work okay? All from poly 318.Drive shafts are totally different between the 64 and 65. 1964 is a ball and trunnion bolt on driveshaft and the 1965 is a slip yoke...
I see you changed the order of 1st 2nd and drive. Another member did this set up as well he posted a clip of going down the track. Kinda wise to be shifting away from neutral and reverse instead of toward it..View attachment 609847
My drag car is still push button. Even have the button faces switched.

Reverse pattern required for most manual valve bodies.I see you changed the order of 1st 2nd and drive. Another member did this set up as well he posted a clip of going down the track. Kinda wise to be shifting away from neutral and reverse instead of toward it..
