Thanks to all for the insight.

Here is a picture from today after we switched the wheels, polished it up, and cleaned the interior. I pulled the carb for a rebuild and will finish pulling the tank tomorrow. After that brakes and LOF. I sure hope it will roast the tires!

I'm thinking about starting a 66 440 trim 383 registry.

Yours is about the 14th one I've seen in 20 years.

They only made about 1675 of them, making them more rare than a Super Bee (if you're concerned with such things).

Nice score - it appears to be a late build car. It has the black knob shifter and a '67 horn ring. It also looks like the valve covers were swapped side to side. I believe that Silver was an optional (extra money) color on a '66 Coronet. IMO - too nice and well optioned car to part out.

Thank you for all of the comments. It is a later build from what I can tell. It has a blue steering column so I wonder if it was swapped out at some point. If it was they did the swap a long time ago. You are correct that the buffed silver paint was an extra cost option. It is a neat shade of silver too...a bit of a green tint.

I am going to put seat covers, carpet, and a vinyl top back on it and get it running for now. Maybe a headliner eventually too.

Good eye on the swapped valve covers. Not sure how that happened but they had to make a new fuel line from the filter to the carb because the original would not fit with the covers swapped side to side. Somebody caught the mistake - there was a set of valve cover gaskets on the package tray. What can I say they smoke a ton of reefer in these parts. I don't know of any other plausible scenario in which you could mix up the valve covers considering the brackets being specific to heater hoses.

I guess we better get busy moving that white Charger to make some garage space!

Making progress...I actually DROVE the car down to the shop last night. Here is a list of what I have done so far to get it running and driving:

Rebuild Carb/Clean Fuel Tank/New rubber lines/make steel fuel line to carb/replace filler neck elbows
Rebuild master cylinder/wheel cylinders and install new rubber lines.
Clean/Grease Bulkhead connector, fuse box, and anything other connecter in sight.
Remove interior and blast/paint seat frames - still waiting on my Legendary order.
Prep/paint floor with epoxy primer and top coat.

great find, I dont know how anyone could abandon a car that nice. If that car would have been where I used to live, there would be nothing left but the glass and a pile of rusty moss. nice work love the pics. I agree the original silver and black vinyl top would look awsome.
